Day 3: Phonological Awareness Activities

Morning: Animal Sounds

Facilitator's Role:

1. Collect videos or pictures of animals making sounds such as /s/ and ash , a list of
animal names represented by the mentioned signs.
2. Thoroughly explain to Sky that she will be making the sounds of various animals –
particularly those who utter /s/ or /sh/.
3. Show Sky a video or picture of an animal making these s sounds.
4. Read some words with /s/ or /sh/ sounds and encourage Sky to mimic the animal’s
own sound making.
5. If Sky make errors, point out her errors by showing the right tongue, mouth, teeth
and lips placements for creating the /s/ or /sh/,
6. Practice the same steps with other animals, and give Sky a chance to improve her
imitation on both /s/ and /sh/ sounds.
Day 4: Phonological Awareness Activities
Rhyming Games

Facilitator's Role:
1. Make flashcards with different words that Sky cannot pronounce clearly.
2. Tell Sky that she will be participating in a game whereby the words could rhyme to a
given word through sound patterns.
3. Show each flashcard to Sky and practice the word articulation, highlighting the target
sounds.
4. Ask Sky to spell every word and then arrange words in groups where they rhyme
with each other. Encourage her to listen for the sound patterns.
5. Give feedback by pointing out any errors and demonstrating the correct
pronunciation of every word.
6. Repeat the process using various flashcards to give Sky chances for practicing
rhyming words identification and grouping.
