Day 3: Phonological Awareness Activities

Morning: Animal Sounds

Facilitator's Role:

1. Collect videos or pictures of animals making sounds such as /s/ and ash , a list of
animal names represented by the mentioned signs.
2. Thoroughly explain to Sky that she will be making the sounds of various animals –
particularly those who utter /s/ or /sh/.
3. Show Sky a video or picture of an animal making these s sounds.
4. Read some words with /s/ or /sh/ sounds and encourage Sky to mimic the animal’s
own sound making.
5. If Sky make errors, point out her errors by showing the right tongue, mouth, teeth
and lips placements for creating the /s/ or /sh/,
6. Practice the same steps with other animals, and give Sky a chance to improve her
imitation on both /s/ and /sh/ sounds.
Day 4: Phonological Awareness Activities
Rhyming Games

Facilitator's Role:
1. Make flashcards with different words that Sky cannot pronounce clearly.
2. Tell Sky that she will be participating in a game whereby the words could rhyme to a
given word through sound patterns.
3. Show each flashcard to Sky and practice the word articulation, highlighting the target
sounds.
4. Ask Sky to spell every word and then arrange words in groups where they rhyme
with each other. Encourage her to listen for the sound patterns.
5. Give feedback by pointing out any errors and demonstrating the correct
pronunciation of every word.
6. Repeat the process using various flashcards to give Sky chances for practicing
rhyming words identification and grouping.

Day 5: Phonological Awareness Activities


Sound Detection
Facilitator's Role:
1. Choose a story that inherently contains words containing both/sh sounds. Make the
story interesting and hold Sky’s attention.
2. Let Sky know that she will be participating in a game to develop her self-monitoring
skills and learn the difference between /s/andships/.
3. Remember to read the story out loud, marking stress on /s/ and /sh/ sounds in these
words.
4. Ask Sky to listen attentively to the story and focus on /s/and /sh/.
5. If Sky identifies the sound incorrectly, provide feedback and correction so that she
can understand how to distinguish between /s/and /sh/.

Day 6: Pronunciation Matching


Pronunciation Matching
Facilitator's Role:
1. Tell Sky that you will be playing a game where she must match the audio recordings
of correctly pronounced words to their corresponding written or pictured versions.
2. Start the game by playing an audio recording and asking Sky to pair it up with its
corresponding written word or image.
3. Support Sky as she engages in the activity, assisting her if there are any problems or
uncertainties encountered.
4. Offer positive reinforcement and praise when Sky gets her matching right, as it
increases her confidence level and enthusiasm.
5. Monitor Sky’s progress in the game, highlighting any patterns or issues that arise.
Provide more practice or help when necessary.

Day 7: Vocabulary Awareness Activities


Sentence Expansion
Facilitator's Role:

1. Prepare a list of simple sentences for the activity.


2. Tell Sky that she will be enlarging sentences by adding more information to them.
3. Provide a simple sentence for Sky such as "The baby is crying."
4. Encourage Sky to provide more information on the sentence, this will stimulate her
imagination and descriptive language.
5. Provide feedback and correction, assist Sky by helping her select the correct vocabulary
and sentence structure.

Day 8: Vocabulary Awareness Activities


Working with Dolls or Puppets
Facilitator's Role:
1. For the activity, prepare dolls or puppets.
2. Tell Sky that she will be role-playing with dolls or puppets to help her practice
sentence construction and learn new vocabulary.
3. Make a simple story with the dolls or puppets, for example, playing in the park
4. Provide support and assistance as Sky does the role-play, assisting her with
sentence creation and providing a list of new words she can use.
5. If there is a need to improve Sky’s sentences, provide some feedback and correction
helping her move towards more accurate and eloquent language.

Day 9: Vocabulary Awareness Activities


Storytelling Chain
Facilitator's Role:

1. Be ready with a set of story prompts or a starting point for the activity.
2. Tell Sky that she will be involved in this storytelling relay where stories continue to
grow.
3. Encourage Sky to add longer and more developed sentences as the story unfolds.
4. Help to expand the sentences that Sky can write and use new vocabulary.
5. Since Sky’s sentences may require some clarification, provide feedback and
correction so that she arrives at a more absolute language which is both precise and
expressive.

Day 10: Vocabulary Awareness Activities


Echo Reading
Facilitator's Role:

1. Ready a list of sentences to use for the activity.


2. Tell Sky to practice echo reading where you will recite sentences after her in order
for her to learn the proper grammar and syntax.
3. Start by reading a sentence out loud, pronouncing correct grammar and syntax.
4. Prompt Sky to say the sentence after you, concentrating on proper pronunciation
and intonation.
5. Give feedback and correction where necessary, assisting Sky with pronunciation,
language grammar and syntax.
