Extra assistance
The five senses are a great topic. Set up a station for
each of the senses with items for students to taste,
hear, look at, touch and smell. Ask the class to show
you what category an item should go in by holding
their nose, hand to the ear, making binoculars
with their hands around their eyes, wriggling their
fingers and sticking out their tongues. Play I Spy,
pass around some Feely Bags with interesting items
in them, make musical instruments, compile lists of
Yuck and Yum tastes and Stinky and Good smells.
Classroom activities
Question and Answer
Write the question: What can you hear? on the
board and brainstorm a list of possible answers.
Write the answer sentence starter: I can hear …
Ask students to write the question and their own
answer. Extend this activity by asking them to write
a question and answer for the other four senses on
their own.
