EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE TO THE SPEED OF SOUND


Materials:
Materials:
●3 graduated cylinders
●tuning fork
●rubber mallet
●thermometer
●hot and cold water
●water at room temperature

Procedure:
1. Label the 3 graduated with room temperature, hot and cold respectively.
2. Pour 50 ml of water at room temperature in the graduated cylinder.
3. Sound the tuning fork by striking it into the rubber.
4. Hold it on top of the graduated cylinder
Q1: Did you hear a sound?

5. Next, fill in the 2 remaining graduated cylinders with hot and cold water respectively. Take note of the temperature in
each of the graduated cylinders you sound the tuning fork.
Q2: What are the temperatures of each labeled graduated cylinder?

6. Sound the tuning fork place it on top of each cylinder. Take note of your observations.
Q3: Which cylinder produced the loudest sound?

Q4: Which cylinder produced the highest pitch sound?

Q5: If a pitch is directly dependent on frequency, which cylinder produced the highest frequency?

Q6: Which cylinder produced the fastest sound?

Q7: How would you relate the temperature of the medium with the speed of sound?
