O.H.S INDUCTION FOR VISITORS


Before entering the above construction site you need to know more about our work activities, hazards, dangers and OHS rules on
the site.

1. You are responsible for your own safety and those around you.
2. You are not permitted to use a Cell Phone on the Construction Site, only at the Office Areas.
3. You are required to provide your own safety boots. The hardhat issued to you must be worn at all times and must be returned
before leaving the site.
a. Minimum PPE requirements for Covid included a facemask and goggles.
4. You are only allowed to enter the site in the company of a site representative.
5. Follow instructions from this person and be alert of the high risk activities around you.
6. There are numerous safety signs on site. Take note of these signs and obey the signs.
7. This project has areas where material and or equipment could fall onto you. Be aware of what is above you.
8. Be careful when walking on site as you can fall over equipment, material or into a hole.
9. Stay away from any open holes and drop off edges.
10. When there are lifting machines in operation, do not walk underneath any suspended loads.
11. Machinery has the right of way and the operator’s vision is limited. Take care and stay out of their way, especially when they
are reversing.
12. Do not enter any area where white and red tape or physical barricading has been erected around an activity.
13. Do not climb onto any high structures including scaffolds.
14. Do not enter the site when under the influence of alcohol or any other narcotics.
15. Do not get involved in any physical assault while on site.
16. Report any injury or incident to the Site Management before you leave site.
17. You are required to be safety conscious, e.g. standing still when you have to answer your Cell phone.
18. Make use of all your senses & do anything possible to prevent accidents.
19. Do not interfere with any work activities.
20. When walking past the back of a vehicle, ensure the operator is aware of you walking past.
21. Where possible keep a 5m safe distance between you and any moving Plant / Machinery.
22. You are not allowed to operate or be inside any Machinery / Plant, unless it’s in your scope of authority and you have your
operating certificates with you. The site management411 will then authorise the work.
23. Report back to the site office before departure.

ENVIRONMENTAL
1. Make sure all waste is put into the appropriate bins marked across site. We do not permit any littering
2. Only rainwater goes down surface drains. Any wastewater should be put through drains or the toilet so that it
goes to the site septic tank
3. No waste chemicals should be put down drains or bare soil and rivers/streams. Rather they be taken to the
Safety/Environment Officer who will take them to temporary storage in preparation for disposal by a
registered hazardous waste disposal company
4. In the event you identify any features of cultural significance (such as gravesites, rock art paintings, etc)
within the project area, report this to the Safety/Environment Officer
5. Report any environmental spills to the Safety/Environmental Officer or Site Agent immediately so that they
may be attended to
6. When in the project area, use only designated roads and do not veer off the paths in order to limit disturbance
to the environment. These additional tracks:
 compact soil
 increase dust
 create a pathway for erosion
 impact on soil ecology and vegetation potential
7. You may encounter snakes in the summer and if so, you need to know this:

 Snakes are generally very shy


 may become aggressive if cornered or are distressed
 may strike to defend themselves
 ALL snakes are protected species
8. To avoid snake bites:
 NEVER try to catch, annoy or kill a snake
 If you see a snake – remain still to allow it to move on and note where it goes – warn others nearby of its
presence – contact Safety/Environment Officer ASAP if it is near a work area or camp for capture and
relocation by trained snake handlers might be required
 Remember, snakes are most active on warm to hot nights so carry a torch and wear appropriate shoes and
trousers to protect from snake bites which usually occur on the lower leg
9. The surrounding area is said to have vegetation, flora and Fauna of different species, please take into
consideration the following species when you are working out on sites,
 Bearded Vulture
 Maloti Minnow
 Spiral Aloe
10. Lastly, we have wetlands around the mountain hills and closer to the fields, be aware and work around these
wetlands when you come across them.
