1 Hurricanes are severe tropical storms that can generate winds of more than
50 / 74 miles per hour.

2 The eye of the storm is the time when it becomes louder / quieter for a while
before it gets worse / goes quiet .

3 In the US, hurricanes occur in many states including Florida and California / Georgia .

4 If you live near the ocean, there may be a storm surge caused by strong winds /
thunder and lightning and heavy rain.

5 Before / After the hurricane, you should bring all outdoor items into the house.

6 You should leave the area / stay where you are if the authorities tell you to evacuate.

7 During the hurricane, you mustn’t / don’t have to stay near any windows or glass doors.

8 If possible, go to a room that has small / doesn’t have any windows.

9 Lie / Sit on the floor and hide under a table.

10 After the hurricane you mustn’t stay inside / go outside on your own.
