Product Overview

1 Product Overview

This document describes Controller 6610.

This document is aimed at those involved in the site installation engineering

process or responsible for the installation, integration, and maintenance of radio
sites and core sites.

1.1 Purpose
Controller 6610 enables remote control and monitoring of site equipment
through IP connectivity. The following are examples of functions:

— Monitoring and controlling power solutions, including grid power

— One Ethernet port for connection to site equipment and one for northbound
connection to the Ericsson Network Manager (ENM)

The functions of Controller 6610 depend on several communication interfaces,

which are accessed through the hardware ports described in Interfaces on page
4.

2 Function Description

Controller 6610 enables remote control and monitoring of site equipment

through IP connectivity. For extended alarm handling with up to 32 external
alarms, SAU 02 01 can be connected directly to Controller 6610.

Controller 6610 can be configured from a remote location and operated from the
ENM. The alarms raised by Controller 6610, or collected from connected
equipment, can be sent to the ENM.

This section describes the maintenance button and the optical indicators of
Controller 6610.

5.1 Maintenance Button

The maintenance button is used to:

— Enter and exit maintenance mode and full maintenance mode.

— Reset Controller 6610.

The operation performed depends on how long the maintenance button is

pressed. Table 5 shows the details of the functions.

Table 5 Maintenance Button Functions

Type of Press Number of Seconds Function

Software Management

9 Software Management

This section describes management of the Controller 6610 software.

Controller 6610 can be in two operational modes:

— Network loader mode

— Normal operation mode

Network loader mode is the default mode for Controller 6610. It is used as the
initial point for integration to a management system or to assign user credentials.
A Controller 6610 delivered in a separate package is normally in network loader
mode.

When the unit has been configured to control site equipment, it runs in normal
operation mode. A Controller 6610 delivered pre-installed in a cabinet is normally
in normal operation mode. Integration towards management system or assigning
user credentials must then be done by performing a board restore to enter
network loader mode. For more information on board restore, see Maintenance
Button on page 6.

After initial configuration for remote access, Controller 6610 is configured from a
remote location through the ENM.

For more information on software management, see Node Description.
