Lesson Plan in Mathematics III

I. Objectives

At the end of a 50-minute lesson, the Grade III pupils are expected to do
the following with at least 80% of proficiency;

a. state that dissimilar fractions are fractions with different denominators

b. perform the operation of adding and subtracting dissimilar fractions
c. solve word problems involving adding and subtracting dissimilar
fractions

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Adding and Subtracting Dissimilar Fractions

III. Materials
participation chart, visual aids, pictures, video

IV. Procedure

A. Preparation
1. Greetings
2. Prayer
3. Grouping
4. Introduction of Participation Chart
5. Setting of Standards
- The teacher will ask the pupils on what are the things that should be
considered if the class/discussion is going on.

1. Motivation

-The teacher will introduce her friend Allyza (picture only) to the pupils
and will tell them that it’s her birthday.

-The teacher will tell a short story about sharing slices of Allyza’s
birthday cake to her friends and ask the pupils how much all in all did
she gave and how much is left.

-Then, the teacher will ask the pupils if they have an idea on what topic
that will be discussed.
B. Presentation

- The teacher will present a video about adding and subtracting dissimilar
fractions.

C. Discussion

- The teacher will ask if the pupils understood the video.

- Ask the students again if what the video is all about.
- Discuss more about adding and subtracting dissimilar fractions by
showing two problems.

A. Adding Dissimilar Fractions

A puppy weighs 4/5 kilogram. A rabbit weighs 3/4 kilogram. What is the
combined weight of the two pet animals?

- Ask the pupils to give the fractions found in the problem.

- The teacher will ask what operation will use.
- Ask someone to solve the problem.

B. Subtracting Dissimilar Fractions

Alma has 8/12 bibingka. She shared 5/8 with her classmate. What part of
the bibingka was left?

- Ask the pupils to give the fractions found in the problem.

- The teacher will ask what operation will use.
- Ask someone to solve the problem.

D. Generalization
- The teacher will ask the meaning of dissimilar fraction.
- Short recap about the steps in adding and subtracting dissimilar fractions.

Envelope 1

Direction: Solve the given problem by using the steps in adding

and subtracting dissimilar fractions.

1. Marc walked his dog 2/5 kilometers on Monday and 3/6

kilometers on Tuesday. How far is that all together?

2. Chris needed 2/3 cup of flour for his cake but he only has 1/4 cup.
How many cup of flour is he still needed?

Envelope 2

Direction: Solve the given problem by using the steps in adding and
subtracting dissimilar fractions.

1. John jogged 5/10 yesterday and 2/4 today. How far did he jog for
two days?

2. Karina has 3/4 yard of material. He uses 1/2 to cover a chair. How
much yard is she left with?
