RECAP

Answer the following questions briefly.

1. What is the difference of one negative number and one positive number?
2. What is the difference of 14 and -3?
3. How far is -10 from 25 on the number line?
4 – 5. To subtract integers, add the additive inverse of the ____________ to the
____________ and then proceed to the rules of adding integers.

LESSON
In this self-learning module lesson, we will be exploring how to multiply and
divide integers. The rules for multiplying and dividing integers are contained in this
module. Enough examples and exercises are presented to facilitate learning.

Read and analyze the following problems.

1. Blair is attending a review session as her preparation for entrance

examinations. Every module costs Php 10. If she needs 5 modules, how much
will she pay after the review session?

Module 1 Module 2 Module 3 Module 4 Module 5

We can represent this as (10 pesos) x (5 modules) = 50. Therefore, Blair
needs to pay Php 50 for her review modules.

2. Melo went to store to buy some candies. He bought 4 pieces of chocolate

candies for Php 12. How much is the cost of each candy?

→ chocolate candies

→ coins

Since there are 12 one - peso coin, and he only bought 4 chocolate candies,
we represent it as (12 pesos) ÷ (4 pieces) = 3. Therefore, Melo paid Php 3 for
each chocolate candy.

3. Lacey is a medical technologist and do some contact tracing for COVID patients.
Every instance of tardiness has a Penalty of Php 5. She has no means of
transportation, so she came in late four times in her reporting hours. How
much did she pay after her working hours?
1st Penalty 2nd Penalty 3rd Penalty 4th Penalty

We can represent this as (-5 pesos) x (4 tardiness) = -20. Therefore, Lacey

needs to pay Php 20 as penalty for her tardiness.

RULE 1: To multiply/divide integers with the same sign, multiply/divide the

absolute value of the numbers then affix a positive sign.

4. Mark is a basketball player. For every shoot, a 2 – point score will be given to
his team. But, some of his teammates made a shoot 7 times to their opponent’s
court. How many points were deducted from Mark’s team?

2 points 2 points 2 points 2 points 2 points 2 points 2 points

We can represent this as (-2 points) x (7 opponent’s court) = -14. Therefore,

14 points were deducted from Mark’s team.

5. Ben lost his job due to COVID pandemic. So, he borrowed P3,000 from his
friend. His friend told him to pay it in 4 months. How much does Ben need to
pay in each month?

April June

May July

(-Php 3,000) ÷ 4 months = -

750
Therefore, Ben needs to pay Php 750 every month.

RULE 2: To multiply/divide integers with different signs, multiply/divide the

absolute value of the numbers then affix a negative sign.
ACTIVITIES

accommodate 20 passengers, how many buses to they need?
5. Evaluate: ¿ x 4 ] ÷ ¿ x 2] ?
WRAP-UP

Remember that…

RULE 1: To multiply/divide integers with the same sign, multiply/divide the

absolute value of the numbers then affix a positive sign.

RULE 2: To multiply/divide integers with different signs, multiply/divide the

absolute value of the numbers then affix a negative sign.

VALUING
Reflections: (Journal Writing)

You can think of multiplying and dividing integers as repeated addition/

subtraction. Just as what we are experiencing today in our lives. We need to
multiply our good acts at the same time live by our own means. On your social
media accounts, do the “KINDNESS CHALLENGE” wherein, you will list down the
good deeds you have done in a day and share it with your friends. Let the positivity
spread and multiply!
