INTRODUCTION
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected nearly every aspect of life, from the way we work
and socialize to the way we learn. With schools around the world closed or forced to shift to
online learning, grade 10 students have had to navigate a new educational landscape while also
dealing with the stress, anxiety, and uncertainty brought on by the pandemic.
The objective of this study is to address the issue presented: the impact of the COVID-19
pandemic on the attitude and behavior of the grade 10 students. This study aims to explore the
impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the attitude and behavior of the grade 10 learners,
focusing on how this global crisis has affected their academic performance, mental health, and
social relationships. The researcher will conduct surveys with the grade 10 learners who have an
attitude that may affect the pandemic.
By better understanding the ways in which COVID-19 has impacted students lives, we hope to
identify areas where schools Parents and communities can offer greater support and resources to
help students navigate challenging times and ultimately overcome adversity.
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
COVID – 19 and its Impact on Education, Social Life, and Mental Health of Students
According to Lee A. Keung V. Cheung C. Clo A. (2021) A study collected data reflecting
the health and well-being of secondary school students entering a programme entitled "Healthy
Life Planning: Assist Students to Acquire and Practice Health Knowledge and Skills" (ASAP
study) before the outbreak of COVID-19. Follow-up data was collected in June and July 2020,
over half a year since the spread of COVID-19, which facilitated analyses of its impact on the
health behaviours and well-being of young people. Comparative analyses between baseline and
the follow-up period were conducted on weight status, sleep pattern and quality, pattern of
sedentary lifestyle, pattern of physical activity, attitudes towards precautionary measures and
influenza vaccination, self-reported changes in hygiene practices, exercise habits and eating
habits. Although hygiene habits and risk perceptions among young people have improved in
many aspects, the level of physical activity has declined as well as the beliefs and attitudes on
increasing time on electronic media and change in sleep hygiene. Attitudes and beliefs towards
influenza vaccination have declined, which would reflect the slow increase in the uptake rate of
COVID-19 vaccination. Health education should equip students with the knowledge and skills to
cultivate beliefs and attitudes to face health challenges.
Factors Affecting the Student Performance during the COVID-19 Pandemic
According to Ling L. (2022) In 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating impact
on students’ academic performance. This paper examines how the COVID-19 teaching has
changed the learning environment, bringing the unprecedented influence of fear, digital
inaccessibility, teaching capability, psychological well-being, and work-life conflict to influence
the students’ performance. It suggests that institutions should restore the global educational
standards to enhance student learning performance, but a positive government attitude is needed
to overcome the gap existing due to the online shift in conventional learning. The paper also
suggests that academicians and practitioners should redefine their educational definitions to
combat the emerging learning challenges.
