Chapter 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

This chapter includes the Rationale, Statement of the Problem, Significance of the

Study, and Scope and Limitations of the study.

Rationale

The pandemic has had a great impact on everyone’s life. The fear of people

growing regarding the virus led to the change in people’s lifestyle, focusing on health,

staying at home, and sanitizing frequently. The behavior of people during the Covid

outbreak changed as health became the priority. People focused on taking vitamins, and

supplements to boost their immune system and to avoid getting sick.

One of the nutrients that everyone needs are proteins. Proteins are important in the

daily diet of everyone. It is the building block of life. Inadequate protein intake can lead

to weaker immune function, slower recovery from illness, and loss of lean body mass.

The need for more dietary protein is in part because of a declining anabolic response to

protein intake in a sick population. More protein is also needed to offset inflammatory

and catabolic conditions associated with chronic and acute diseases. Evidence shows that

higher dietary protein ingestion is beneficial to maintain body functionality and promote

recovery in adults who are in catabolic conditions. The catabolic conditions are situations

like acute bed-rest, malnutrition, physical inactivity, and virus infections. Due to the

current situation, patients that are infected with Coronavirus (issued by China CDC)

recommend patients to take 150-200 grams of total protein per day The recommendation

of how much dietary reference intake (DRI) for the ill to consume for extra support is

1.2- 2.2g/kg/d. (Agropur)

This protein powder usually comes from eggs or milk, but it can also come from

plants such as soybeans or rice. Protein powder also has ingredients such as vitamins and

minerals, artificial flavoring, thickeners, and added sugar. In most cases, people get 10-20

grams of protein in a scoop. The customer can make protein power into a shake with just

a bit of water or milk, or the customer can add it to their favorite smoothie. Protein is an

essential macronutrient that helps build muscle, repair tissue, and make enzymes and

hormones. Using protein powder may also aid weight loss and help people tone their

muscles. (Healthcare, 2019)

Protein shakes is a blended drink resembling a milkshake that contains a high

level of protein, typically drunk to help someone gain muscle or weight or increase their

level of energy. Protein shakes can be made all naturally but most gym-goers prefer

adding protein powder to their protein shakes. Protein powder is a popular nutritional

supplement. That’s the reason why the researchers hope that these Proteinity shakes help

to contribute to the gym-goers, fitness enthusiasts, and health-conscious individuals to

become fit and achieve a healthy lifestyle.

Statement of the Problem

This study aims to determine the feasibility of Proteinity Shake in making healthy

drinks in Pangasinan. Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions:

1. What is the feasibility in establishing the proposed business in terms of:

a. Marketing Aspect;

b. Technical Aspect;

c. Organization and Management Aspect;

d. Financial Aspect;

e. Socio-Economic Aspect;

2. This study aims to help consumers in their daily intake of proteins through the

business’ protein shakes, considering not everyone has the time, knowledge, and

equipment to make their protein shakes.

3. This study also aims to educate readers on why protein is important in everyone’s diet

and to inform readers on the benefits they can get from consuming protein shakes.

Significance of the Study

This study may give the customers an effective, nutritious, convenient, and safer

product than the other product in the market. Proteinity Shakes gives a lot of kinds of

benefits that make this study significant in the health of people's day-to-day living and

expenses on a monthly budget. The proposed product aims to provide the customers with

a better, and more convenient way of making protein shakes, but a nutritious protein

shake for everyone's health. This project was used to popularize the essence of

innovation. Protein shakes are beneficial to those who work out to build muscle, lose

weight, or increase endurance. When it comes to weight loss, protein shakes can even be

a highly convenient way of maintaining a high protein diet without unwanted calories.

Protein shakes were equally effective in men and women. However, the effectiveness

may decrease with age, as older adults have higher protein requirements than younger

people.

Scope and Limitation of the Study

This study focuses on the effectiveness of Proteinity Shakes to people around

Dagupan City, and nearby towns who want to be healthy and agile, especially those gym-

goers, fitness enthusiasts, health-conscious that affect them from going to the gym due to

pandemic and lockdown. According to a survey conducted by the Medical Expenditure

Panel Survey, the age group 18-44 was the most likely to exercise. With that information,

this study will also require a survey with 100 respondents from 18-44 years old or teens

and young adults. The target market, and the flavors in turn will be based on survey data.

The organization type of the proposed business is limited to a sole-proprietorship.

Chapter 2

MARKETING ASPECT

The chapter discusses the company product, general business condition, target

market, competitors, demand and supply analysis, marketing mix strategies, and SWOT

analysis.

Business Description

Proteinity Shakes is a small business that sells different flavors of protein shakes.

The business sells delicious and healthy drinks at affordable prices. The business is a

manufacturing business where the owner will create and process the main product to

offer directly to the customer.

Product Name

The name of the product is “Proteinity Shakes”. It is a combination of the words

“Protein” and “Quality”. It is named Proteinity Shake because it is made from

ingredients that will build immunity, energy, and muscles. The name is also simple and

straightforward so that the reader will immediately know what the business is selling,

which is protein shakes. The business is not limited to selling only protein shakes, but the

main products are protein shakes.

Product Characteristics

Proteinity Shake offers a great-tasting flavor, good nutritional contents. It is

perfect for building muscles, gaining or losing weight. It is a protein drink typically

consumed before or after a workout to aid in muscle recovery. It is usually made with

Arellano Street, Dagupan City, Pangasinan, Philippines 2400

5
fresh fruit, ice, a protein source such as protein powder, and a liquid. This made it

convenient for the people who don’t know how to do protein shakes and for the people

who don’t have time to make their protein shake.

It is simply a convenient way to increase the intake of protein, which is needed to

support muscle growth and a host of other bodily functions. It is different from a standard

DIY shake that contains high amounts of sugar. It contains other ingredients such as

flavorings, vitamins, and branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs). It is served with a good

amount of nutrients that are good for the body. It does not contain any harmful

ingredients. The business is planning to have three flavors for the launch of the business.

These flavors are banana, banana with chocolate, and avocado flavor. There will be

two sizes available: small (12oz) and large (16oz).

Product Benefits

The following are the benefits of the product once the customer availed and drink

the Protein Shake.

1. Boost Metabolism - according to an article written by Ariane Lang at

Healthline.com, high protein diets increase expenditure on the calories burned in two

different ways. First, the person burns more calories by metabolizing protein than carbs

or fat. This metabolic response to food is known as diet-induced thermogenesis. Second,

high protein diets stimulate gluconeogenesis, the process of producing glucose from

protein or fats in the absence of carbs which is believed to burn more calories in the

process. And in an article written by Kristin Wempen (Nutritionist), The recommended

dietary allowance to prevent deficiency for an average sedentary adult is 0.8 g per kg of

Arellano Street, Dagupan City, Pangasinan, Philippines 2400

www.up.phinma.edu.ph | +63 75 522 5635 | 0995 078 5660
6
body weight. For example, a person who weighs 75 kg (165 pounds) should consume 60

g of protein a day.

2. Promote Muscle Gain - protein is the building block of the muscle, therefore

having enough protein in the diet promotes muscle growth or maintains muscle mass. But

the person needs to be working out to gain muscle, drinking protein shakes alone does not

promote muscle gain. Protein shakes are just supplementary drinks to help build muscle.

3. Improve Performance - protein shakes are rich in protein, and protein helps in

performance when doing physical activity. When a person works out, the muscle fiber in

the muscles gets stressed and experiences microscopic damage, which is a good thing.

Then here's when protein shakes come in for help, the protein in the shake helps repair

tissues damaged by the workout.

4. Improve Recovery - just like in number 3, muscle fiber is damaged when we

workout, and proteins and other nutrients from the protein shakes help the recovery

process of the muscle. Combined with proper diet and sleep, thus it improves the

recovery of the body.

5. Good Source of Energy - ingredients used in making the protein shake have a

lot of good sources of energy. Not only does the drink give the person more energy, but it

also doesn’t make them feel bloated.

Product Recipe

The ingredients needed for making the three flavors (banana, banana with

chocolate, and avocado flavor) are listed below. The measurements of the ingredients are

depending on the size of the order. For the 12oz protein shake recipe, the recipe is written

below:

● 1 cup of Ice cubes

The procedure for making protein shakes is simple. First, slice all the fruits

needed for the shake. Make sure to measure all of the ingredients for better results. Then

mix all the ingredients in a blender until desired consistency. Then add the whey protein

powder and oats.

abstract and stylized to give visual interest to buy it. The logo consists of elements of a

modern logo. The logo is kept minimal to make it more modern and easily

understandable. It is also colorful, catcatchy, and unique so that the customers will be

interested to buy. The word “Proteinity Shakes'' is in purple to symbolize the shakes that

the business sells, and the color purple is also friendly and stands out. The leaf

for the body. The tagline is also a way of introducing what to expect in the products of

the packaging, it has the nutritional facts that have the information needed by the

consumer, like how many calories, protein, fat, and carbs the shakes have. The packaging

also has the list of the ingredients used for the product. This will inform or help the

consumer in tracking their daily calorie intake, and to be aware of what ingredients are

used in the product.

General Business/Industry Analysis

The business sells healthy beverages to students, employees, and especially gym-

goers or people who excercise or work out. The business falls under the beverages

industry because shake is a type of beverage. The business also falls under the fitness

industry since protein shakes are mostly consumed by gym-goers or people who

excersice or work out. Proteinity Shakes product's increased popularity among the

millennials coupled with their interest in building health through a balanced diet is

expected to create additional demand. The beverages industry is the world's most

dynamic economic factor in place of significant role when it comes to economic growth.

Increasing reliance on supplements to fulfill the daily nutritional requirements owing to

changing lifestyles is expected to drive the product demand further. The covid-19

pandemic has resulted in increased consumption of protein supplements to strengthen the

immune system.

Competitor Analysis

Most competitors of Proteinity Shakes are cafes or drink stores that also sell

beverages in Pangasinan. Most of these competitors are using unhealthy ingredients in

making their drinks, and it also has high sugar content. Compared to the other product, it

its products are freshly prepared at the stores and its commissary ensures that products

are delivered to the stores are of the freshest quality. Fruitas is one of the direct

Market Share Analysis

Since the original procedure of computing the demand and supply analysis to

come up with the market share and sales projection is impossible to calculate due to the

lack of necessary data, the proponents conducted a remedial action to find and gather the

most probable market share and sales projection based in the survey results and the

internet. The proponents utilized an alternative formula to come up with the estimated

market share which is shown as follows:

Table 2.19 Projected Market Share

Market Share = Total or Projected Sales of the = 1,567,800.00/ 61,221,550 x 100

Project Sales of the Company: ₱ 1,567,800.00
Project sales of the Market: ₱ 61,221,550
Market Share: 2.6%

The table above shows the projected market share of 1.88% of Proteinity Shakes.

The projected sales of the company were based on the manufacturing capacity of the

business which is 12,480 units and can be sold at around P 1,567,800.00. The market

share has a small result because the business is a new entrant to the market.

The projected sales of the market in the Philippines are P 61,221,550.00 which

means it covers the entire country and it includes the City of Dagupan. Due to the

research constraints and the impossibility to gather data amidst the pandemic, the

proponents will rely on the data on the internet and create assumptions correlated in the

survey results to narrow down and find the most probable results. This is why the market

share can vary.

Pricing Analysis

The pricing strategy used in selling the product is cost-plus pricing. By adding all

the ingredients and material costs, then the mark-up is added. There are 2 sizes available

for each flavor for more options. Whey protein and oats are separated in the product and

act as an additional. This is done for more customizability and to make it more

affordable.

TECHNICAL ASPECTS

This chapter provides information about the technical aspects of the product,

manufacturing process, production schedule, production-cost requirements, the location,

structure of the business, the equipment, furniture, fixture, supplies needed for the

business, and finally, the permit and licenses required for the operation of the business.

Product Technical Description

Proteinity Shakes is a protein drink that is a healthy beverage for gym-goers and non-

gym-goers. It is typically consumed before or after a workout to aid in muscle recovery.

Proteinity shake is usually made with frozen or fresh fruit, ice, a protein source such as

protein powder, and a liquid. This made it convenient for the people who don’t know

how to do protein shakes, don’t have equipment for making their protein shakes, and for

the people who don’t have time to make their protein shake.

The business had proposed to introduce three flavors of the initial launch to pass

during the initial stage. The flavors are banana, banana chocolate, and avocado flavor. It

will also have optional oats since not everyone will want more calories in their drinks.

Oats will also be optional, it is very noticeable that they cannot just enjoy the delicious

protein shakes but also have the benefits of it. Some benefits of drinking protein shakes

are boosting metabolism, promoting muscle gain, improving performance, improving

recovery, and good source of energy.

The protein shake has two selections of sizes, which are small (12oz), and large

(16oz). It is packed in paper cups that are of high quality, strong, and hold their shape.

Every cup can come with a lid, so drinks can be consumed on the go. The packaging is

simple and unique and is also low cost, saving circulation costs. The logo is on the front

of the packaging so that the customer can immediately read it. And at the back of the

packaging, it has the nutrition facts and the list of the ingredients.

According to the article written on the website Iceshaker.com, most active people

drink one protein shake a day, which contains a single scoop of protein, meaning that the

consumer is receiving nearly half of the daily recommended protein intake from the

shake. It’s recommended to consume somewhere between 25 to 50 grams of protein

powder each day. And the nutritional content for each cup of Proteinity Shakes is around

376 calories, 39.7g of carbs, 12.9g of fat, and 30.3g of protein, which is a good amount of

protein for daily intake of protein for each person.

Manufacturing Process

This part contains the preparation, steps, and procedures to be followed to

properly handle and manufacture the Protein Shakes. These are the following steps to

for better visualization and understanding. Since the business is a sole

proprietorship, the required employees in the business are minimal and the owner

will manage the business. The company has three (3) employees: Gen.

Manager/Owner, production staff, and waiter. The manager will be in charge of the

business. The manager is needed in this kind of business to organize and keep track

of what’s happening in the business. The manager will also be handling the cashier.

Under the manager, there are three (2) positions. First, the production staff will be

in charge to take the orders of the customers, and the server will be needed in this

business to provide the order of the customers.

The equity ratio is a financial metric that measures the amount of leverage used

by a company. A low equity ratio means that the company primarily used debt to acquire

assets, which is widely viewed as an indication of greater financial risk. Equity ratios

with higher value generally indicate that a company’s effectively funded its asset

requirements with a minimal amount of debt.

Chapter 6

SOCIO ECONOMIC ASPECT

This chapter discusses the social responsibility of the business for the community.

It shows the possible benefits the government may get if the business is established in the

future. Also, it will serve as a tool to help the economy when it comes to employment,

and the environment.

Revenue Generation: City Government

The government would levy a tax on the company, just like it would on any other

properly established commercial entity. The establishment of a business would have a

significant impact on the population of Dagupan. As a result, with fewer jobless people,

there are more tax options.

Revenue Generation

The corporation would be taxed in the same way that any other properly created

commercial organization would be. The opening of a business would have a substantial

impact on Dagupan City's population. As a result, there are fewer unemployed persons

and more prospects for tax revenue.

Employment Generation

The proposed firm aims to assist unemployed citizens of Dagupan City and the

surrounding areas. Their talents and standard of living increase as a result of being

employed.

The government implicitly and explicitly prohibits employers from discriminating

against their employees or job candidates based on specific criteria such as age, sex,

religion, color, race, age, weight, or disability.

The proponents of the study seek to establish a friendly and pleasant environment

for all when it begins. There will be no judgments, prejudices, or biases since diversity

and distinctions will be fused into one. Employing everyone who is qualified and fits a

specific employment criterion. The proponents will also comply to the standards'

sanctions and keep income in mind during the recruiting process.

When it opens, the proponents of this study hope to provide a welcoming and

pleasant environment for everyone. Because diversity and distinctions will be merged

into one, there will be no judgments, prejudices, or biases. Hiring anybody is qualified

and fits a specific job criterion. The proponents will also follow the rules' fines and keep

earnings in mind during the recruiting procedure. If you are between the ages of 18 and

35, you are eligible to apply as long as you are physically and intellectually fit.

Environmental Compliance

A company that is environmentally conscious will get a positive reputation while

also helping to conserve the environment. The company used paper cups instead of

plastic cups to save the environment and prevent using plastic.

Paper cups are biodegradable, recyclable, and environmentally beneficial. To

reduce trash disposal and increase productivity, plastic bottles holding discarded

dishwashing liquid, peanut butter, honey, and whey, will be sold to a junk shop. Use

environmentally friendly products that will clearly help the business to prevent

burdensome compliance to a business.

Helping people while also safeguarding the environment will boost the long-term

viability and efficiency of a firm. Long-term success will be more likely for a company

that is less reliant on natural resources than its competitors and has policies in place to

deal with rising costs related to climate change.

Corporate Social Responsibilities

The proposed business’s social responsibility program activities are the following:

1. Corporate Social Responsibility in Terms of Engaged Employees; The proposed

business will treat their employees equally and help them to improve their skills by

providing seminars/training.

2. Corporate Social Responsibility in Terms of Loyal Customers; Proteinity Shake

will ensure that every customer will receive the best product and service and will gain

loyal customers. Loyal customers will be rewarded with a 5 to 10 percent of discount for

every transaction that will avail as a way of showing gratitude to them, loyalty of

customers will be given to them which will then be used to gather discounts. Through

this, the customer will continue to promote the business to others through the word of

mouth strategy.

Chapter 7

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

This chapter discusses the summary of findings, conclusions, and

recommendations of Proteinity Shakes.

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS

Proteinity shake is usually made with fresh fruit, ice, a protein source such as

protein powder, and a liquid. This protein powder usually comes from eggs or milk, but it

can also come from plants such as soybeans or rice. Protein powder also has ingredients

such as vitamins and minerals, artificial flavoring, thickeners, and added sugar. Proteinity

shake is different from a standard DIY shake that contains high amounts of sugar. It

contains other ingredients such as flavorings, vitamins, and branched-chain amino acids

(BCAAs). It is served with a good amount of nutrients that are good for the body. It does

not contain any harmful ingredients.

The behavior of people during the covid outbreak changed as health became the

priority. People focus on taking protein supplements to boost their immune system and to

avoid getting sick. Thus, researchers hope that these Proteinity shakes help to contribute

to the gym-goers, fitness enthusiasts, and health-conscious individuals to become fit and

achieve a healthy lifestyle. (Sustainability) Protein shakes have a lot of health benefits. It

is also affordable and will surely satisfy the needs of the people who are in diet mode.

Having protein shakes in the daily diet is very beneficial specifically for gym-goers. But

even though the customer doesn’t work out, they still can enjoy the delicious protein

shakes and still have the benefits of it such as Boosting Metabolism, Promoting Muscle

Gain, Improving Performance, Improving Recovery and Good Source of Energy. The

business will be organized as a sole proprietorship business, with one of the proponents

of this feasibility being the owner, who will establish, own, operate, serve, and finance

the business. The goal in owning a business is to provide for the needs and wants of

customers, as well as to assist them in improving their physical condition. This study will

also require a survey with 100 respondents from teens and young adults because their age

is the most active in exercise, and that age is the most people needed to become healthier.

According to our study, 89 percent of individuals are interested in trying our product; 76

percent are between the ages of 21 and 29, 20 percent are between the ages of 20 and 29,

and the rest are between the ages of 30-40. And they go to the gym to maintain a healthy

and muscular physique.

The protein shake’s natural flavors and components are preferred by 93 percent of

respondents, and 45 percent choose to combine it with milk or other protein-rich

beverages. Avocado flavor has 58 percent, the banana flavor has 48 percent, the

chocolate flavor has 34 percent, mango flavor has 30 percent, and strawberry flavor has

26 percent. As you can see, more individuals choose Avocado, Banana, and Chocolate,

hence these are our top three protein shake flavors.

CONCLUSION

After conducting the feasibility study, the researchers came up with the

conclusion that the Proteinity shake can be utilized as a healthy diet to lose weight and

build muscle and will be highly beneficial in the community. Furthermore, the Proteinity

shake gives a customer a product that is new, effective and affordable, and safer than

usually sold in shakes shops because of its natural components. It is also acceptable by

the consumers, which makes the business profitable. This Proteinity shake may enhance

muscle mass and performance when the training stimulus is adequate and dietary intake

is consistent with recommendations for physically active individuals.

RECOMMENDATION

Since Proteinity Shake is not yet well-known in the Philippines, it received

attention from the people. This study introduces Proteinity Shake in the Philippine

Market which helps people to maintain their good health and to achieve their dream body

composition. For future researchers, it is recommended to dig deeper into this study to

educate people about the importance of healthy eating. Improve this study as best as you

could. Based on the survey result, a positive reaction by the respondents. It is highly

recommended for the next researchers to continue proving the benefits and convenience

of having Proteinity Shake in the City.
