When a transmission is assembled, you must check the dimension between the end of the clutch
shaft and the bolt on seal ring carrier. The check must be done on all rotating clutch shafts that
have the bolt on seal ring carriers.

After the roller bearing is installed on the shaft, the dimension from the end of the shaft to the end
of the bearing should measure 5.43 ± 0.17 mm (0.214 ± 0.007 inch). Maximum clearance between
the end face of the shaft and the end of the seal ring carrier should be no more than 0.55 mm
(0.022 inch).

This 0.55 mm (0.022 inch) max dimension can be easily checked by bolting a short length of
solder between the seal carrier and clutch shaft. Then measure the thickness of the compressed
solder.

Incorrect clearance is caused by improper assembly or parts that are out of tolerance. Too much
clearance will cause the 8F-3469 O-Ring Seals to become dislodged. Excessive leakage in the
system forms once the O-ring seals are dislodged. The O-ring seals will then move into the oil
passage. This excessive leakage in the system causes low clutch pressure. The root cause of the
dislodging of the O-ring seals is many times overlooked. If the problem is not corrected a clutch
failure will occur.
