clothes.

We're discussing next month's work today. Don't get off-topic.
不就是晚上没及时接你的电话吗？怎么又扯到几年前的事情上面了？
All I did was miss your phone call last night. Why are you bringing up things that happened
years ago?

Grammar

到底 (dàodǐ) - to get to the bottom of

到底 (dàodǐ) can be used in questions to express a real desire to "get to the bottom of things" (a
phrase which is close to the literal translation of the word). It often comes after the subject, as
well as verbs and adjectives.

When translated as part of a full, earnest question, it often comes out as "(what) in the world...?"
or, a bit more crassly, "(what) the hell...?" In spoken language, tone of voice can also convey the
sense of the word (expressed below as "?!").

倒(倒是) (dàoshì) - blaming

倒 (dào) can be used to express that the truth is in fact the opposite, that the situation is not as
such. It is used with 得 (de) when used with the verbs 说 (shuō), 想 (xiǎng) and the adjectives,
容易 (róngyì)，简单 (jiǎndān)，轻松 (qīngsōng). The subject is used in the 2nd and 3rd persons.
It has a tone of blame.

也 (yě) - being tactful

也 (yě) is sometimes used to soften a statement, making a potentially unpleasant remark a bit less
direct.
