Introduction

"Used to Be" (originally titled "I Used To Be A Hoe") is a song recorded by

Brazilian singer Anitta. It was released on August 17, 2023, through Republic
Records, as a single from the bundle Funk Generation: A Favela Love Story. The
song will be added to her sixth studio album Funk Generation.
On August 14, Anitta released snippets of the single "Used to Be".
The Funk Generation: A Favela Love Story bundle was announced on August
1st. Two days later, the tracklist was released on the YouTube channel First We
Feast and the next day the cover and pre-save were also released. On August 14,
Anitta released a teaser for the bundle.
Two days later, a sneak peak of the music video was released on GNT's TV
show Saia Justa.
In the song, Anitta references her old relationships, how she used to be a
“hoe’’ hooking up with anyone. It also refers to the exchange of energy at the time of
sex.
Music video

The music video for "Used To Be", directed by Ricardo Souza, with creative
direction by Anitta and Marcelo Jarosz, was released on August 24, 2023. The lyric
video was released on August 17. The recordings took place in January in the
community of Vila Cascatinha, Rio de Janeiro.
A marriage proposal kicks off the music video, during Anitta's date with the
romantic interest we met in the music video for "Funk Rave". In love, she accepts.
But the wedding is interrupted by a kidnapping, engineered by the artist's jealous
admirers. Still dressed as a bride, she has to struggle to run away and chase after
her happy ending.

Costumes

In the costumes, the romantic atmosphere characteristic of the music video is

given by softer colors and signs of the love universe, says Anitta's stylist, Daniel
Ueda. "Used To Be" is a twist on the story previously told. Anitta wants to get married
and become a 'well-behaved' girl. After "Casi Casi", which has much more skin on
display, here it appears more fluid, with various ruffles, shades of pink, lilac and
off-white", he explains.
One of the great highlights of the audiovisual, the wedding dress worn by
Anitta in the wedding and kidnapping scenes was made by many hands. "She
already had an idea in her head, I made the sketches and, together with Andre Betio,
we built them," explains Ueda, referring to the designer who has already designed
looks for Gisele Bündchen. Daniel reveals that the appreciation for Brazilian
designers and upcycling (a technique of transforming old clothes and fabrics into
new pieces), very striking in the first video of the trilogy, is reinforced here.

I love this clip. It's cute, funny, and entertaining, as well as showing a more
passionate side of me. I really like the way the video concludes the trilogy very well,
but it also works on its own. It 's beautiful.

Promotion

The premiere of the Funk Generation: A Favela Love Story bundle was
performed by Universal Music and Anitta, in conjunction with dance classes in Rio de
Janeiro and Mexico City.
Anitta launched the bundle at themed parties in Mexico City and on GNT's TV
show Saia Justa. The singer has given a series of interviews to the podcasts Podpah
and El Gordo y La Flaca, YouTube channels PelucheEn ElEstuche and Damian
Cervantes, as well as promotion on EXA and Alfa radio.
Anitters (Anitta's Fans) carried out other projects distributing posters, doing
dance challenges, organizing flash mobs, and recreating the music video in Rio de
Janeiro.

Performances

On August 20, 2023, the first live performance took place on the “Domingão
com Huck” program on the Globo television station.
Anitta performed "Used To Be" at the Global Citizen festival, Video Music
Awards, Altas Horas program and La Musica Es Universal event.

Charts

"Use to Be" reached No. 1 on iTunes (Brazil).

The song debuted with 824k streams on Spotify. The song has already surpassed 11
million plays on Spotify.
The music video reached 2,1 million views on the day of release. "Use To Be"
has surpassed 6 million views on YouTube.

Kikiki (Curiosities)

Originally, the song was going to be called I Used To Be A Hoe, as reported

on the YouTube channel First We Feast.
Perra de raza is a reference to the dog Lassie, a character mentioned in "Casi
Casi".
 In the first scene of the kidnapping, everyone present in the church, including
Anitta, was really scared by the entrance of the ex-boyfriends.
"Used To Be" closes the trilogy of the Funk Generation: A Favela Love Story
bundle.
