ASSIGNMENT - 4

CLASS 9
PHYSICS
WORK AND ENERGY

Q1 Define the SI unit of power.

Q2. Jaskaran, a class 9th student, climbs up school stairs of 30 steps in 30 s. If each step is 20 cm
high, calculate the power used in climbing the stairs. The mass of the Jaskaran is 50 kg. [Take g
= 10 ms-2]

Q3. Aarushi pulls a bucket of water of total mass 5 kg from a well which is 10 m deep in 10 s.
Calculate the power used by her. [Take g = 10 ms-2]

Q4. How much time will be required to perform 520 J of work at the rate of 20 W?

Q5. A block of mass M is raised from position A to B by taking two different paths as shown in
the figure given below. If AB = h, then what will be the work done on the block of mass M for
the given two paths ?

Q6. Figure shows a watch glass embedded in clay. A tiny spherical ball is placed at the edge B at
a height h above the centre A.

i) Where does the ball have a) highest Kinetic energy , b) highest Potential Energy.
ii) Write down the mathematical expression for Kinetic Energy, Potential Energy.
