Personal Statement

Hello my name is Sebastian Rucobo. I live in a small town called Merced. I grew up here all my
life. I know where every little spot is in this town and I know where the best places to hangout
are and the best places to eat are in this small town. The community here is really nice they’re
always doing all types of giveaways and night markets and get-togethers. I will graduate at El
Capitan the year of 2024, this school is really cool and nice everyone I met here has been so
nice and there really isn’t any fights here everyone usually gets along with each other I met
some of my bestest friends here at this school and i’m really glad I came here and I’m proud to
say I am and will forever be a Gaucho. After I graduate I will go to a trade school maybe in a
year or so after high school to learn and find out about what kind of things I should know about
being a Automotive Mechanic and what kind of safety protocols there are then I am going to
pass my Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification exams. After that I am going to
search for work as a Mechanic in Phoenix, Arizona and eventually, hopefully open up my own
business. The steps that I’ll take to get into a trade school are to get good grades so that I’ll
have a better chance of being selected at certain schools and apply for scholarships, a school
I’ve already searched up and learned about is: Skyline college which is very interesting because
It has a number of programs that increase the knowledge and skills of auto technicians. The
institution started in 1969 with a population of more than 17,000. This college has students from
different nationalities and races. Students that will graduate with an associate degree in
Automotive Technology from the institution could be eligible for a California Smoke Check
License. The college has partnered with a number of automobile companies that provide great
academic support. Some of the notable manufacturers are Nissan of America, Subaru of
America, Mercedes Benz, Ford, and Audi of America. The Automotive program is an ASE
Educational Foundation accredited program. Another college I did some research on is Las
Positas college and Las Positas College is committed to assisting you in achieving your
educational, career, and personal goals and the students are completing and earning degrees in
a timely manner; they’re college has awarded its highest number of associate degrees for six
consecutive years, which means that more and more students are graduating each year and
they value social justice, equity and diversity. They pride themselves on academic excellence,
and provide a high quality educational experience for all students. We also pride ourselves on
our student first philosophy, in which we are committed to providing a welcoming, caring and
supportive educational environment, in which every student matters and their experience and
their success is important to us and we strive to maintain a caring campus environment.

My entire life I’ve always dealt with people who thought negative about me and didn’t ever think
that I’d make it in life because I always stood out compared to other kids because I learned
slower compared to other kids so it took me some more time to understand what the other kids
already knew and I never really knew how to go to people about my problems or ask for help
because I was always shy and scared to approach others and it didn’t help that my nana passed
away when I was at such a young age because she was always so proud to see me and was so
proud of the progress I made and always encouraged me and told me to never give up and that
I was her “shining star”. I’ve always wanted to prove them wrong and show that I can actually
make it somewhere in life and make my nana proud by succeeding in life and show her that I
never gave up on my hopes and dreams.

I prospered through my hardship by getting more confident in myself and never slacking and
being more communicative with others and always staying focused on my work and grinding
and eventually I started accomplishing all my goals in life and I started making friends and
people started treating me the same as others then I started making my parents proud by
always having good grades and I soon started making myself proud form all the progress I
made in life I’m really glad I got through my hard times in life.

What I’ll do to better my chances of getting into a trade school/college are getting good grades
my final year of high school and acing the ACT or SAT, get work experience, do community
service, do extracurricular activities, write unique, thoughtful personal statements (obviously),
define my long term plans/goals, demonstrate interest (by visiting the colleges to get a feel for
the school; the best way I could show my interest is to take the tour, meet with admissions
officers, and ask questions. With a bit of notice, I can arrange to attend classes and meet with
the professor whose area of research interests me), apply to a diverse selection of colleges and
build meaningful relationships. And then hopefully in the end I will be accepted to the college I
applied for and achieve all my future goals and just live the rest of my life to the fullest.
