Engaging your national and local government

As States are the main ‘duty-bearers’ and are responsible for realising the rights of street
children, national and local government officials are often among the most important
stakeholders to influence. They are the ones who can change the country’s laws and policies
that affect street children, and hold the country’s budget to set up interventions for street
children. Engaging national and local governments will therefore likely be one of the key
priorities of any advocacy strategy.
