General English Courses
Students can join one of our General English courses every Monday.
General English students can study on the Half-Day course 09.45 to 13.00
or Full-Day course by choosing one of the afternoon Options 14.30 to 16.00.
There is a maximum group size of 8 students for all group courses.
What to expect?
After a short assessment, students are
placed in a group suitable for their level.
Our experienced teachers will ensure that
much of your time will be spent speaking and
listening while at the same time developing
your grammar, vocabulary, reading and
writing skills. The daily coffee breaks
provide the perfect opportunity for you to
practise your spoken English and meet
other students from around the world.

Students on the General English Half-Day

and Spoken Performance
• Introductions and needs analysis.

• Discussions on UK culture and current
affairs.
• Pronunciation, rhythm, intonation and stress,
error correction, idiomatic and colloquial
language, phrasal verbs.
11.30 to 13.00 – Written Communication
• Reading texts for vocabulary and grammar
development.
• Writing skills including: letter writing, note-
taking, report writing and emails.
• Telling a story: describing and linking words
and expressions.
• Expressing attitudes and ideas.
• Register: use of formal and informal
language.
Half-day + Option
inlingua Edinburgh offers a range of optional courses that are designed
for students who have a specific goal in mind, and would like to rapidly
improve their English language skills. Options are varied and are offered
on a one-to-one basis or in group tuition.
Students will study the General English Half-day group course in the
morning, before moving on to a more specialised option in the afternoon
14.30 to 16.00. Group Options consist of 30 lessons per week in a class
size of 8 students maximum.

General English
+ Exam Preparation
inlingua Edinburgh has a strong reputation for preparing students to sit Academic
English Exams in our city centre language school. Students will benefit from
the expertise of our experienced teachers who have an excellent track record of
successfully preparing students to sit a range of exams including; IELTS,TOEIC, PET,
FCE, CAE and CPE as well as a range of Business English Exams.

Students can improve their general English and prepare for sitting one of these exams
by choosing the General English + Exam Preparation course. Each course will
consist of General English group training in the morning 09.45 to 13.00, followed by a
more specific Exam Preparation option in the afternoon 14.30 to 16.00. This course will
consist of 30 lessons per week, and a maximum class size of 8 students.

One-to-One Tuition
One-to-one tuition is available all year round with one of our experienced
teachers. Students will benefit from individual attention and lessons
tailored to their unique needs and requirements. One-to-one tuition is
available in blocks of 20, 30, 40 or 50 lessons, and is ideal for students
who want to see fast progress in their English in a short period of time.

Mini-Group
The Business English Mini Group is
designed for professional and business
people who would like to work in a small
group of maximum 4 students. This is
ideal for clients who wish to combine the
benefits of having plenty of access to a
trainer and also being able to participate
in group conversation and comprehension
that comes from peer learning. It is
designed to give the client the skills to
communicate effectively in English and to
improve their confidence when working in
a business environment.
English Plus Courses
inlingua Edinburgh offers a range of English Plus courses that offer English
language students the chance to discover Scotland’s fascinating history and
culture. With so much going on in Edinburgh, it would be a shame to miss
out! English Plus courses combine a traditional classroom based English
language course with a supplementary cultural option.

English Plus Culture The Social and Cultural Programme

The course offers General English
at all levels in the morning from 9.45
to 13.00 plus a cultural component
in the afternoon from 14.30 to 17.30.
The afternoon programme introduces
the students to Edinburgh and The
Scottish Arts, History and Culture.
As well as providing a fascinating
insight into Edinburgh and Scotland,
students will also benefit from the
extra use of conversational English
outside the classroom as each
English Plus course is accompanied
by an inlingua Edinburgh teacher.

English for Education

Professionals
Teachers of English as a foreign language or education
professionals from within the EU, can apply for Comenius or
Grundtvig funding to study this course (UK-2013-1977-037).

The English for Education Professionals course is designed for

professionals and educators who wish to develop fluency and gain
confidence in English. Students on the course will improve all four
communication skills in a professional context. The course is practical
with interactive group work, and will involve linguistic competence
with practical feedback from trainers.

The course also features a teaching methodology component which

runs for two afternoons per week 14.30 to 17.30. Each course is
prepared around the participants needs and requirements. It will look
at teaching and learning styles, practices and beliefs and establishing
learners needs. It will look at the four skills – teaching strategies,
techniques and problem solving. Classroom management and
teaching resources, the use of technology in the classroom and CLIL
are also discussed.

For three afternoons per week the course will also introduce
participants to Edinburgh and The Scottish Arts, History, Culture and
Edinburgh Festivals. This component varies according to the time
of year but will typically include guided tours and visits to places of
interest in Edinburgh.

This English for Education Professionals course can

be booked for one or two weeks throughout the year.

English + Festival
Edinburgh is famous throughout the world for its festival scene. For
the month of August, the city becomes alive as both the Edinburgh
International Festival and The Fringe Festival combine to form the
biggest celebration of the arts on the planet.

Generally students will follow the General English Half-day group course
09.45 to 13.00, before following the inlingua Edinburgh Festival
programme in the afternoon.

The course will introduce students to the history and culture of Edinburgh,
as well as the Edinburgh festivals.

The festival programme will include
cultural and festival activities such as:
• Tours of Edinburgh – The Castle,
The Old Town, The Royal Palace and
The Scottish Parliament
• Art Galleries and Exhibitions
– The National Gallery, The Portrait
Gallery and The Modern Art Gallery
• The Edinburgh Festival and Fringe
Festival performances
• The Edinburgh Book Festival and
lectures.
Entry to all sites and events is included
in the price, and students will be
accompanied by an inlingua Edinburgh
teacher. Evening and weekend activities
are available as a supplement, and
can be booked at inlingua Edinburgh
language school.
This course is open to individual or group
