Elevator Speech (5%)

10 Marks Total
The Basics:
The purpose of this assignment is for you to practice delivering an informal, introductory elevator speech. The
focus is on delivery and allowing you to start feeling comfortable with presentations. This is also helpful for
me, at the beginning of the course, to get to know you.

Instructions:

 Answer the questions listed below in complete sentences. This will act as the content for your elevator
speech:
1. What is your name?
2. Who are you and what program are you in?
3. What are your educational goals?
4. What is your ideal career?
5. What qualities or characteristics do you have that you think make you a good fit for this career?
6. In what ways will communication skills be important to your education and future career?
7. What are you looking forward to in terms of your education and future career?

 Write a script for your Elevator Speech and practice your speech until you have it memorized.

 Make your script interesting and conversational – avoid complex language – but be professional.
Write/speak like you are talking to someone face-to-face at an interview or meeting.

 Video Record yourself for practice and to check timing a number of times. Your Elevator Speech should
be no longer than 60 seconds! Consider how fast you are talking (fast/slow?). You may need to revise
your speech if it is too long!

 You may use any platform to record the video.

Submit 2 files on Blackboard :
1- Script of your Elevator Speech (word or pdf).
2- Recorded video file of your Elevator Speech (30-60 seconds)

IF YOU ARE NOT COMFORTABLE USING YOUR VIDEO FOR THIS ACTIVITY, PLEASE INFORM
INSTRUCTOR A WEEK BEFORE THE DUE DATE.
