Briefly describe your family's economic background.

Include information about your financial

challenges. My family and I are considered low income. My dad has been working in
plumbing for 20 years or more. My mom does not work, she stays home taking care of
us. My mom takes care of my sister, she has special needs. My sister is 24 years old but
she is not dependent. My mom showers her, changes her, etc. I help my mom with my
sister by taking care of her. My parents grew up and were raised in Mexico and came to
the US to give my sibling and I a better life and education.

Why would you like to attend college? Discuss your career and personal goals. Are there any
particular circumstances, school experiences, or persons that influenced your preparation or
motivation to attend college (e.g., cultural/financial background, family, teachers, schools you
attended)? Please explain. I would like to attend college because I am the first in my family
to go to college and I care about my education and want my siblings to look up to me and
inspire them. I believe that when you accomplish a goal you feel proud and happy. What I
am trying to say is I want to prove to myself that if you work hard for a goal and never
give up, you will get there. I strongly believe that with God all things are possible in life. I
grew up in a household where my parents would tell me what college you want to go to
and what you want to do with your major. That motivates me to attend college because I
want my parents to be proud of me, they already are but I want them to know that I
appreciate their support, and love. I am excited to attend college and major in
psychology and get my masters degree. College will help me learn new things and meet
new people from my same major. It is a great opportunity to learn new things and know
how to prepare yourself for your future.

Briefly discuss your academic background. Did you utilize any additional support at your high
school, such as tutoring? Do your grades in high school and/or college reflect your academic
ability or potential? In high school my grades depend on my GPA and whether I get into
college or not. I have been avid for 4 years and that has helped me grow as a person
because I got to meet new people and stay organized with my school work. My academic
background is that I have been getting all A’s in all my classes. My junior year I got my
first B plus in chemistry. It was challenging but I passed it. Overall I take Cornell notes
which I was taught in avid class. This helps me by going over and reading my notes and
writing a short summary of what my notes were about. When I have a test or exam I get
my notes from that subject and study it before the test comes up. I highlight the
important information, key terms, etc. I underline and make notes on things I am
confused on like questions and I bring it to my TRFs for avid and I am prepared for the
test.

List any volunteer, extracurricular activities, or work experience in which you are or have been
involved in the past two years. In the past two years I have had a part time job and I work in
the El Capian high school cafeteria which is the current school I am at. My work hours
are during my lunch time Monday through friday. It is easy, flexible, manageable, stress
free, etc. Also, my tasks are to scan and write the students ID Card number when they
come to get lunch. If A teacher buys lunch I count the money and tell them how much it
would be. I serve the food to the students, lastly I count the milk that is left over and shut
down the ipad and charge it. On the other hand I have taken Spanish honors class, I am
currently taking AP Spanish this school year, and I have taken two college classes. I
completed my 250 community service hours. Furthermore, I have been awarded with CSF
active member, perfect attendance certificate, college credit, and maintain/earning a 4.0
GPA.

Is there any additional information you would like EOP to consider in determining your
admission to the program? An additional information I would like EOP to consider to
determine your admission to the program is I have trouble hearing in my left ear and
getting that support I need in my classes will help learn, and do well in my classes. In
middle school I would struggle a lot due to the fact that I couldn’t hear and math was
hard for me. Once I enter high school I develop new skills and use my voice to speak up
and ask questions and get that extra help I need by being in AVID club and class. It helps
me with math and gain a better understanding of the subject.
