Mid--Year Academic Reflection

Seniors
You have finished your senior fall semester and are only a few months away from graduation!
Having had nearly four years of high school, take some time to reflect on your experience.

 hat are
Thinking about your efforts and experiences in core classes since you were a freshman, w
some of the ways you’ve evolved as a student? What has been your biggest challenge(s) in your
core classes? What are some of the most rewarding experiences you’ve had academically?
Consider examples that you may remember long after high school.

Some ways I have evolved as a student since my freshman year include not only
academics but self improvement in my physical and mental health as well. Now, I work out
regularly, almost daily. And weekly I have counselling. I am applying skills from there to my life
to help me with my anxiety. Medicine did not work for me, in fact it threw me into a time of
depression for a bit. I have endured many losses throughout my high school experience, and
moving forward afterwards, while also keeping up with school and extracurriculars during those
hard times was always a challenge but I managed to push through it and came out stronger. I
have also grown in my faith from where I am now versus the beginning of high school. Now, I
have learned better ways to manage my time and I also have taught myself strategies of how to
complete a heavy workload. The biggest challenges for me academically have been in the math
department and with managing time and work loads. Hence my growth in those areas. Especially
with math and science, trying to understand the work and complete it for both classes each given
day was very hard, those are two classes that don’t necessarily come easily to me. Academically,
some of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had are earning my way up to the honor roll,
getting mainly A’s, maintaining a high GPA, Never giving up even when it was tough, and
always pushing for success. I wish I had gotten accepted to one of the CSU’s I had applied for
since I worked so hard, but I was not notified that we must submit our SAT scores. I was
honestly just waiting to see about acceptance because I thought they already had my scores!
They did not and no one told me, that was very disappointing, and I know I must take some
responsibility for a part of this but I truly am and was even more confused at the time about
college admissions so honestly that was a bummer and it would’ve been nice to have more
guidance along the way. This experience SUCKED especially for working so hard but I have
learned that even when you practice self advocating, it doesn’t always work and help is not
easily provided, but I found some good resources to help me with my admissions to the SRJC.

Looking ahead, what do you need to do during your last semester to accomplish your goals?

Looking ahead, to accomplish the remainder of my senior year I have to stop rushing
time and live in the moment. For me this is more of a time for self growth and preparation for the
future. Last semester so much had happened in my life and with my family that the transition
totally threw me off track. To be honest, I have worked so hard academically these past twelve
years and now I just need to finish the last part of this year strong and regenerate my mental
health and well being so I am fully prepared for my fall semester of college.
