We will encounter these words in our topic this day.
Our topic this afternoon is on comparing and contrasting same topic in
different multimodal texts. (PAUSE)
Let’s study first the meaning of the word MULTIMODAL. It is the
SLIDE 27 combination of the prefix multi-, meaning “many,” and modal, which is
the adjective form of the word mode, that means “a way of doing
something.” Multimodal means many form of doing something. It
requires the processing of more than one method and the recognition of
the interconnections between information.
SLIDE 28 Multimodal texts are often live, digital text or paper-based.
SLIDE 29 Live multimodal text is shown through combinations of different modes
such as gestural, spatial, audio, and oral language.
SLIDE 30 Examples of these are dance..
SLIDE 31 and oral presentation..
Next type of Multimodal text is…
Digital multimodal text
SLIDE 32 It is presented through dynamic combinations of various modes across
written and spoken language, still and moving visual image, audio,
gesture, and spatial communicative resources.
Films, slideshows, e-posters, digital stories and animation are examples of
SLIDE 33
digital.
Let’s have The Third type..
SLIDE 34 It is the Paper- based multimodal text
It is conveyed to the reader through varying combinations of written
language and still images.
Infographics and brochure are best examples of this kind of text.
SLIDE 35
Textbooks, posters and comics are some more examples.
Learning multimodal text is an efficient way for the learners to become
familiar with the different methods of learning, remembering, and
SLIDE 36
studying information. This will enhance the learners’ ability to retain
information at a deeper level.
Do you understand our topic? I hope you did. To check if you really did, I
am going to ask you some questions.
Here are the questions.
Process questions:
SLIDE 37 1. What are the three types of multimodal texts?
2. Give at least 1 example of paper-based text.
