Lesson 1.

1: Patterns and Numbers in Nature in the World

(Fractals)

NAME: Pamela Grace B. Tañalas (BSEd English 1-A)

ASSESSMENT

Look around you, find at least 5 images which possess the properties of a Fractal:

A branch from a tree – it can be identified as a fractal since the branches of the
tree are similar when they branch out more.

Rug – this rug can be associated with fractal because of its similar pattern
around which is rectangular. As you zoom it, it is still the same pattern being
used.

Crotched sunflower – we all know that sunflowers have the same pattern in
their bud as they flourish. Especially the petals of the flower.
Pattern in a fabric – this can also be associated with fractals as the patterns in this
fabric follow the same pattern around it.

Create your own fractal. Discuss how you created the fractal:

YOUR EXPERIENCES: Write your experiences in understanding the concepts and activity.

It is very fun to know that almost all around us, that we can find in nature is somewhat connected to
fractals, though it is in nature, we sometimes do not think that there is a mathematical computation that
is also being used there.
YOUR REFLECTIONS: What difficulty, if there is, did you encounter in performing the activity? How did
you overcome them?

It is just difficult to look for things that can be used for fractals around the house. Since there is very
limited idea on how you can identify a thing that can be considered as a fractal. But I just tried my best
to look and luckily, while looking around the house. I saw things that can be somewhat be used as a
fractal.
