Since 4 straight lines can divide a circle into at most 11 parts, 5 straight lines are required to divide a
circle into 14 parts.

We can find the answer by summing up number of multiples of 6 and 9, and then subtract the number of

21. Counting from 1 to 10000, how many numbers are there that have exactly two digit “5”s and only one
digit “4”?
從 1 至 10000 中,有多少個剛剛有兩個數位「5」及只有一個數位「4」的整數?

As 10000 is not the number required, we have the number should be consisted by 4-digits (digits can be
0) . Consider the position of digit “4”, we have 4 choices; and there are 3 choices for the position of digit
“5”. As there are 8 possible number digits of other positions (neither 5 nor 4), we have total 4  3  8  96
numbers.
由於 10000 不符合題意,所以該數字由 4 個數位組成﹝數位可以是 0﹞。考慮數位 4 的位置有 4 個
可能,由此數位 5 的位置有 3 個可能。考慮其他數位只有 8 個可能性﹝不可以是 5 或 4﹞,所以一
共有 4  3  8  96 個符合條件的數字。

22. How many 4-digit numbers are there whose product of all the digits is an odd number?
在所有 4 位數中,各個數位之積為奇數的有多少個?

解:625
As the product of the digits of each number is an odd number, all the digits should be odd numbers.
So the number of 4-digit numbers that the product of all the digits is an odd number is 5  5  5  5  625 .
各位數字之積為奇數,則所有數位皆為奇數,
由此可得各個數位之積為奇數的 4 位數 5  5  5  5  625 個。

23. There are 11 boys and 4 girls in a class. Choose 3 boys and 2 girls to form a study group. How many
ways are there in total?
某班有 11 個男生和 4 個女生,從中選取 3 名男生及 2 名女生組成讀書小組,問一共有多少方法?

24. The attached figure is made up of 5 grids. A colour is filled into each box, and two adjacent grids do not
share the same colour. If there are in total 4 colours to choose from to fill in the grids, how many ways
are there to colour the figure?

Start to consider the possible colour from regions A to region E. We will have the number of ways to
colour the figure will be 4  3  2  2  3  144 .
把圖案的區域標記為 A、B、C、D 及 E。
由 A 區到 E 區考慮可以選擇的顏色數目,可得染色方法一共有 4  3  2  2  3  144 種。

25. Arrange 5 letters A, B, C, D and E in a row. If A and B as well as C and E must be adjacent (the order is
not restricted), find the number of permutations.
把 5 個字母 A、B、C、D 和 E 排成一排,如果要求 A 和 B 兩個字母、C 和 E 兩個字母都必須相鄰,
次序不限,有多少種不同的排列?

First we group A and B as well as C and E into a group, so we are arranging three items into a row, so we
have 3  2 1  6 permutations, considering A and B, C and E can have both 2 different arrangements,
we have 6  2  2  24 permutations.
考慮 A 和 B 為一組 C 和 E 為一組,我們可以設想成排列 3 個項目為一行,有 3  2 1  6 個排列的
可能。考慮在每個排列當中「A 和 B」及「C 和 E」都有兩種排列可能,一共有 6  2  2  24 的排
列可能。
