SUBJECT: NATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAMME

__________________________________________________________________________
Dear Colleagues,

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Information uses this medium to share with
our stakeholders the following information regarding the Recover SMARTER
National Summer School Programme. This programme will be executed as the
first leg of the National Intervention Plan, which has been developed to mitigate
the effects of the learning loss experienced due to the disruptions caused by the
COVID-19 pandemic.

Summer school will begin on Monday, July 5, 2021 and will be delivered using two
modalities: Face to Face and Online learning.

Duration and Mode of Delivery

Online Modality will be offered for seven (7) weeks from Monday, July 5, 2021 to
Thursday, August 19, 2021. Students will, however, have on-demand access to
the platform and content for the entire summer period. Parents can also choose
to have their child/children enter or exit the programme at any point to allow the
students to rest during the period.

Face-to-Face Modality will be offered for four (4) weeks from the July 5, 2021 to
July 30, 2021. Discussions and plans for the logistics for face-to-face sessions will
take place at the regional and school level. Please note that teachers at the
school level can be engaged to teach in the face to face modality and will be
compensated for same.

Please note that under no circumstances should parents be charged to access

the National Summer School Programme (face to face or online) as this cost is
being absorbed by the Ministry.

Who is Eligible for the Summer School Programme?

All students who desire to be a part of the programme will be accommodated.
Those students who have been disconnected from the formal learning system will
be specially targeted to attend summer school. The regional teams, led by the
Guidance Units, will make every effort to identify and locate these students, in
collaboration with the school-based support teams. This information is also to be
uploaded to the data capture instrument in the links below.

Student Recommendations
Although the programme is voluntary, teachers will be asked to recommend
students who need the additional support. Any student may be recommended,
but students with identified literacy and numeracy deficiencies, as well as those
operating below 50% in the core subject areas,
should be specially targeted for support. In addition, those students who have
been consistently disengaged from learning over the past academic year will be
identified through the regional offices in an effort to position them for immediate
and further support. Teachers are asked to use the links below to provide the
requested data on recommended/identified students:
Primary : https://forms.gle/EeaXnprxBfVEmopR6
Secondary : https://forms.gle/sQxZyEvjvNbLcVWSA

This data should be submitted no later than Wednesday, June 30, 2021.
