License and Software Installation Instructions

Overview
• If not done already, obtain an updated NVH Simulator license for 2023
• Send email to license_admin@vi-grade.com with current license file attached and request updated license file
• Download the latest VI_Licensing software (if not already running 2021.3 or later)
• Minimum requirement is VI_Licensing 2021.3
• If you already have VI_Licensing 2021.3 (or later) installed, the 2023 license will work with this and you do not need to
update the license server software
• Install the VI_Licensing software on the license server and/or local PC (depending on configuration)
• Download and install NVH Simulator 2023.1

 Software Installation
• You will get versions from the VI-grade Download page
• https://www.vi-grade.com/en/reserved_area/software_download/
• You need a user account to access this area – you can
create one on the VI-grade website.
• Your user account needs to be granted rights to access the
download area – please contact support if you cannot
access this area.

• There are subfolders for different releases...

• In Folder NVH Simulator 2023.1:
• For the NVH Simulator installation, you will need the NVH Simulator
installer
• For Vsound and SimSound, you will need the VSoundSuite installer
• For SPC (source path contribution) you will need the SPC/DPT
installer
• Note: DPT is the legacy Data Preparation tool, and has been replaced by
NVH Data Prep (contained in the NVH Simulator installer)
• In the VI-grade Software Suite Folder:
• VI-Licensing is required (at least version 2021.3)
• VI-WorldSim is optional, but required to use WorldSim visuals

NOTE: You need to have admin rights to install the software

Software Installation – VI-Worldsim
• The installation of VI-Worldsim is an optional installation, but required to utilize the VI-Worldsim visual
scenarios in the NVH Simulator

• Note: At the time of NVH

Simulator 2023.1 release,
latest available WorldSim
Version is 2022.2
Licensing changes

• For 2023.1 a version 2023 license is required!

• Updates can be requested through license_admin@vi-grade.com

License Installation – Node Locked
1. Run the VI-Licensing Setup .exe 3. Accept the default component selections, install software

2. Read and accept terms and conditions 4. Enter the port number ( can leave default port # if it is an
open/unused port ) and browse to your license file

License Installation – Floating License

SERVER
1. For floating license installation, follow the same steps indicated in
previous 2 slides for node locked licenses, but this time on the
SERVER Machine .

License Installation – Floating License
CLIENT 2. Once installed, search for “environment variables” on your windows
search and go to result “Edit the system environment variables”.
On the client machine, Select the “Environment variables” button
• 1. Install VI-Licensing on the client machine. During the installation
process make sure to un-check the component "License Server"
and proceed with the installation of "Client Tools“ and "Visual
Studio runtime".

3. . Under system variables → create/update environment variable

VIGRADE_LICENSE_PATH = 6200@<hostname> ( adjust port #
based on how your license was setup ).

Note: hostname can

be entered either as
<host-
name.network> or as
<IP address of host
Note: The installation of VI-Licensing on the client machine >
facilitates the access to some useful tools,
like diagnostic tools and license borrowing

4. As a last step, go to the License Manager in NVH Simulator
Note: you can setup multiple hosts or combination of floating and node locked licenses. Need to setup License Manager and environmental
variables appropriately
Eg: 1. Floating & node locked combination
6200@NVHSimulator.network.com ; 6200@localhost
or
6200@localhost;6200@NVHSimulator.network.com
NVH Simulator reads the system environmental variables
(as set on previous page) the first time it is launched, and
uses these here in the license server address field of the
license manager. If later modified in the license manager, it
uses the new modified license server addresses instead of
system environmental variables.
This license manager in NVH Simulator applies license
server settings to all NVH Sim applications (including SPC,
DPT, Road Creator, etc.)
The order of host determines which
license is accessed first

Floating license – Who is using the license?
• On the client side, we now have the ability to get information on which user is currently using a network
license
• To do this, go to the Command prompt on the client pc and use the command
cd C:\Program Files\VI-grade\VI-Licensing Setup 2023
lmxendutil.exe –licstat –vendor vigrade –host <hostname> -port <port number> -network

This four-digit number should match

the installed VI-Licensing Setup
(check C:\Program Files\VI-grade to
determine this)

VI-Licensing Control Panel
• The License Control Panel
provides access to license
usage and log file
information
License Manager
1. With the new Licensing system, we have a new license manager setup.
2. The license manager now has additional check out options for additional licenses like Jury, ORS and ESS. These are not checked out by
default now, so that some of these licenses when unused can be utilized by someone else ( network licenses ) .
3. For internal node locked licenses, since you would probably want to check out all licenses, pls. go to the license manager and check the
checkboxes. You will need to do this only the first time you launch the latest version of NVH Sim.

 Install NVH Simulator and SPC/DPT

i. Install NVH Simulator software by running the installer from

the NVH Simulator download site
ii. (not required if upgrading from 2022.1 or later)
Run the SPC/DPT Installer from the software download
i. The first time installing SPC/DPT, it is required to install the
SQL Server
i. If SQL Server was previously installed by VI-grade
SPC/DPT installer OR a version of Bruel&Kjaer Pulse
Labshop or SPC/DPT installer, “already installed” will be
indicated
ii. There will be a step to install a SQL database - Be sure to
install the “Express edition” and make sure the 3 boxes as
shown below are checked
• NOTE: Your PC may need to reboot between 1 and 3 times for the
SQL installation to be complete
iii. If after the reboot the installation does not continue, rerun the
Setup+.exe

Note:
From NVH Simulator 2022.2 DPT is no longer required, all functionality is available in NVH Data Prep
(part of NVH Simulator installer)
SPC/DPT installer is still needed for SPC installation, but latest version is 2022.1 14
Quick Checks
• Once you have installed the software, check to make
sure the corresponding programs appear in the start
menu in the NVH Simulator folder SPC Installer

Additional Software
The following software can be downloaded as needed:

Additional Traffic Cars.zip: Road Surface Texture Pack.zip:

• 33 additional traffic cars for use in the NVH Simulator • For use in NVH Simulator Road Creator
visuals. Includes several passenger cars, SUVs, vans,
• Additional road textures with various road surface
trucks and buses. Only needs to be installed once (not for
appearances and roadway line configurations
every NVH Simulator release).
• Nomenclature for the folders/files
• Unzip the “Additional Traffic Cars.zip” file
• X_Y – X is outer line, Y is center line
• Place the “Cars” directory in the Zip file in the • n = none
“C:\ProgramData\VI-grade\NVH Simulator” folder • w = white
