Week 3-5 Colour theory assignment – Gr 8

You have now begun to understand how and why different artists use colour in their work. It helps to
inform the viewer of different ideas and connotations that are part of cultural norms and evolutionally ideas.

Assignment:

For this assignment, you will create a work that only uses one (1) of the colour harmonies presented in
class. This can be any image that you would like to create comprised of objects, but must use one of the colour
schemes/harmonies that have been covered in class.

Please also include a short artist statement outlining:

- What colour scheme that you have chosen.


- Why you have chosen the scheme.
- How it has been used.

Instructions:

1. Open sketchbook.
2. Choose what you want to draw. (This should be only objects).
3. Choose one colour harmony that you want to use. Remember to consider the cultural or emotional
associations to your chosen harmony.
4. Draw image with pencil to correct any mistakes that are made.
5. Apply chosen colour and medium to the page.
6. Remember to shade your image as needed.
