1. Introduction:
The Smart Street Light IoT Project aims to revolutionize urban lighting by incorporating Internet of
Things (IoT) technology into the city's street lighting infrastructure. This project is driven by the need
to enhance energy efficiency, reduce operational costs, improve public safety, and contribute to
sustainable urban development.

2. Project Background:
The city of Dhaka currently operates a conventional street lighting system that consumes significant
energy and requires frequent maintenance. The existing system lacks the capability to adapt to
changing environmental conditions or real-time traffic patterns, leading to unnecessary energy
wastage and potential safety concerns.
The proposed Smart Street Light IoT Project seeks to address these issues by implementing an
intelligent and connected street lighting system. By integrating IoT technology, the project aims to
achieve dynamic control over street lights, enabling them to adjust brightness based on factors such as
traffic density, weather conditions, and time of day. This project aligns with the city's commitment to
reducing energy consumption, enhancing urban safety, and adopting smart city initiatives.

3. Methodology:
The methodology for implementing the Smart Street Light IoT Project includes the following key
steps:

3.1 Street Light Retrofitting:

● Retrofit or replace existing street lights with energy-efficient LED fixtures.
● Equip each fixture with IoT sensors to monitor light intensity, motion, and environmental
conditions.

3.2 Communication Infrastructure:

● Establish a robust communication network using LoRa (Long Range) technology to connect
all street lights to a central control hub.

3.3 Central Control Hub:

● Develop a centralized software platform to monitor and manage all street lights in real-time.
● Implement intelligent algorithms to control light intensity based on data from sensors and
real-time conditions.

3.4 Data Analytics:

● Collect and analyse data from sensors to make data-driven decisions.
● Generate reports on energy consumption, system performance, and maintenance needs.

3.5 Mobile Application:

● Create a user-friendly mobile app for citizens to report issues and request assistance.
● Enable citizens to customize light settings based on their preferences and real-time needs.

4. Feasibility Study:
The feasibility of the Smart Street Light IoT Project is based on the following factors:
4.1 Economic Feasibility:
● A cost-benefit analysis demonstrates that the project's long-term energy savings and reduced
maintenance costs outweigh the initial investment.

4.2 Technical Feasibility:

● The required IoT technology and communication infrastructure are readily available and can
be implemented effectively.

4.3 Operational Feasibility:

● The project can be integrated into existing street lighting operations with minimal disruption.

5. Limitations:
While the Smart Street Light IoT Project offers numerous benefits, it is important to acknowledge its
limitations:

5.1 Initial Investment:

● There will be an initial cost associated with retrofitting and implementing IoT technology in
street lights.

5.2 Connectivity:
● The effectiveness of the project relies on a robust communication network, which may face
occasional connectivity issues.

5.3 Data Privacy and Security:

● Ensuring the privacy and security of data collected from sensors and mobile applications is
crucial and requires careful implementation.

6. Conclusion:
The Smart Street Light IoT Project is a transformative initiative that aligns with the city's goals of
energy efficiency, safety enhancement, and sustainable urban development. By intelligently managing
street lighting based on real-time data and citizen preferences, this project will contribute to a more
liveable and sustainable urban environment. The feasibility study demonstrates the project's economic
and technical viability, while also recognizing its limitations. With careful planning, investment, and
stakeholder engagement, the Smart Street Light IoT Project can become a beacon of innovation and
efficiency in our city's infrastructure.
We look forward to your support and collaboration to make our city smarter, safer, and more
sustainable through this ground breaking project.
