GUIDELINES FOR NEW VIDEO EDITORS

TEXTS AND FONTS

1
 The Bold Font is to always be used as the font.

 Don't go over 6 words per frame, 3-5 words per frame is ideal.

On CapCut, this is the right setting for the text. The font needs to have the same stroke for the outline,
blend, and style. We are not just wanting THEBOLDFONT. We are wanting THEBOLDFONT done
identically to the style shared in the videos.

2
 Here is an example of what NOT to do https://www.instagram.com/p/CtPE_5BOdNi/
too thick of an outline and don't have any shadow effect outside of the text

 I like how the colour fills in sometimes. There’s a zooming effect on the text. 0:09 on the text
‘with failure’ and 0:18 on the text ‘stay committed’. This is done well and this video has a great

 Enlarge the text, one word or a few words at a time and use different colors throughout the text
when appropriate. Here’s an example, Notice that there is a zoom in on each word, or each
couple of words. 00:07 of this video with the text “RIGHT TRACK”

 Don’t make all the text straight. Add angled text sometimes like 0:04 of this video

and 0:03-0:04 of this video https://www.instagram.com/p/CtSMJYAsq1D/

 Using occasional effects/styles of fonts are good for engagement. Notice a background and the
style of the font adjusted here at times. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cqnl43vON6N/

4
SOUNDS
 These are the ideal sound effects throughout, and the appropriate volume level.
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/C7ueYRDQgBQ
 Do not put any negative sound effects, such as alarms or buzzers; similar to what happens on
game shows when an incorrect answer is given and a buzzing sound occurs, indicating a "wrong
answer."
 Putting background music is not good; Michael puts the music on the platform itself.
 Remove background noise (wind, groups talking) - https://app.cleanvoice.ai/

5
GRAPHICS/ANIMATIONS
 Do not use flaticon! I don’t like their clipart/graphics whatsoever. Canva or other tools are better
for graphics
 I like a pointing to the text effect like this at the beginning of this video and see how this emoji
was used throughout https://www.instagram.com/p/CrwYzLDu083/

 Do your best to avoid putting text or graphics over my face like this.

 When doing zoom chops, you may have a close up of me, in this case, it’s fine to add less words
per frame , so that the words aren’t covering my face

TRANSITIONS, EFFECTS, AND CUTS
 Explanation of the importance of keeping people’s attention:

 Use a zoom effect on one word or a few words at a time and use different colors throughout the
text when appropriate.
 Transitions (0:02) “RULE #1” and (0:09) “RULE #2” of this video

B-ROLLS AND PICTURES
 Have this bounce effect where you zoom into the b-rolls, it is very engaging, see 0:07 how theirs
a nice zoom out, and also 0:02-0:04 is very engaging https://www.instagram.com/reel/CsrG-
vOO9Y7/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
 I like the effect of adding a picture to the top, or bottom of the video.
Bottom – 0:09 of this video https://vm.tiktok.com/ZM2DVmCCq/

 Another ex: the first 5 seconds of this video https://www.instagram.com/p/CtSMJYAsq1D/

 Incorporate engaging B-roll footage: B-roll footage adds depth and visual interest to your videos.
Choose relevant and visually appealing shots that support the main content. B-roll should
enhance the storytelling and provide additional context.
 At the beginning of the video, Add a 2 second b-roll/image green-screen effect on some of the
videos (30% of the videos assigned)
 As shown in this video here, to engage the viewer and show them a different video background,
a b-roll was used at the very beginning:

 and at the beginning of this video https://www.instagram.com/p/CsG-r-MuAhf/

10
SPELLING/GRAMMAR
 Pay attention to small but important details like spelling and grammar in text overlays, and
proper alignment of element.
 Always make the text professional; this means, putting ‘going to’ , instead of ‘gonna’.

11
RATIO AND DIMENSIONS
 Maintain proper aspect ratios: Ensure that your videos have the correct aspect ratio for the
platform. Common ratios include 16:9 for YouTube and 9:16 for vertical videos on platforms like
Instagram and TikTok. Do not place texts that are too close to the border.
 Take note of the Instagram reels safe zone to avoid the video getting cut:
