TEENS TWO FINAL EXAM Paper 2

Time allowed: 1h.30 min.
SECTION A: Reading Comprehension
Read the text and choose the correct option, true (T) or false (F).

A Very Brave Girl

Malala Yousafzai has a big dream: she wants all the girls in the world to have access to education. She was
born in 1997, and when she was a child she always lived in a small town in Pakistan, in an area that the
terrorists controlled. These terrorists believed that only boys should go to school, not girls.

At the age of 11, Malala started writing about her life at school in a diary. She wrote that not many girls were
coming to school because they were afraid of the terrorists. They completely prohibited girls from going to
school: they closed all girls’ schools in Pakistan. In 2012, Malala was on the bus with some friends when
she was shot in the head with a gun by a terrorist. Incredibly, she survived the attack and went to Britain for
medical treatment. At that moment, Malala had the attention of the whole world.

A year later, in 2013, Malala recovered and spoke at the United Nations on her 16th birthday. She talked
about the right to education for all boys and girls. In that same year, she wrote the book I am Malala.
Unfortunately, the book was prohibited in many Pakistani schools. The following year, in 2014, Malala won
the Nobel Peace Prize. At the age of 17, she became the youngest person to win it! Malala continues to
work for women’s rights and non-violent protest. She is one of the most influential women and inspires girls
around the world to be brave and make a change in their communities.
