NARRATIVE REPORT

Last December 5, A Seminar Themed “ Proficiency and Accuracy: Formula Towards

Global Competitiveness” was conducted at Tindalo Hall, which has a lot of audience from
University of Perpetual Help System Laguna- Isabela Campus. The Speaker is Dr. Mary Joyce
Gumpal- Damo, Teacher III from Ugad High School . Registration began at 8:00 a.m., with
participants from other courses. The Opening Ceremony began with a video rendition of the
National Anthem, and also the School Hymn and a prayer followed by a Thought for the day.

The very active and diligent Dean of College of Arts And Education, Sir Glenn
Galingana. Sir Glenn taught us a lot, but there is this one quote he said that stuck in my mind:
"Ang pagiging teacher ay napaka taas na pangarap. We teachers should be leader. Leader for
being good." This quotation from our dean made me realize that the course I entered is not a
joke; it is not only in making lesson plans and imparting knowledge to students but also in
applying good behavior, being good to people, and in anything, whether living things or non-
living things.

Before the Seminar officially begins, Ms. Fatimei Lintao, President of the Young English
Advocates Society (YEAS) Organization, introduced our resource speaker, Dr. Mary Joyce G.
Damo, who highlighted the value of spontaneous communication in evaluating students'
confidence.

Dr. Mary Joyce started the seminar by asking, "Why are we so afraid of public
speaking?" Some students responded that we are afraid of being judged and also because of a
lack of confidence. When Dr. Mary Joyce said, "We are humans; it's okay to commit errors," I
realized a lot. As a student who is afraid of public speaking, I realized that we future educators
have the right to commit errors too, but not to the point where we always do it. We future
teachers should be role models for our future students.I also remember her stating that when we
are in front of a crowd and we become anxious, we should meet our anxiety because it is normal
for us to be anxious. Dr. Mary Joyce explained that we must learn how to manage it. We can deal
with it by singing in our minds; it may helps us to be calm.

A brief seminar training program for future teachers feels that what they learnt will have
a big impact on their personal and professional growth, which will benefit them much in their
future role as educators. Students left the session with renewed confidence in their English
language skills. Based on my seminar experience, I can state that the seminar was effective since
it taught me a lot and because the speaker was good and wise.
