PERIODIC TEST -2 [ chemistry – answer key ]

I. 4) ≥ 7.0
5) H2CO3
II. 10) Assertion: Common salt is used for the preparation of
many chemicals such as sodium hydroxide, bleaching
powder, baking soda, washing soda etc.
Reason : Main source of sodium chloride is sea water.
Answer: (b)
V. 15) i) Universal indicator is a mixture of many different
indicators which give different colours at different pH values
of the entire pH scale. The colour produced by universal
indicator is used to find the pH value of acid or base by
matching the colour with the colours on pH colour chart.
(ii) Solution A is acidic and will turn litmus solution from
blue to red.
Solution B is basic and will turn phenolphthalein from
colourless to pink.
VI . 20) i) Chloride of lime refers to calcium hypochlorite
CaOCl2 while calcium chloride is CaCl2.
Chloride of lime reacts with carbon dioxide to form chlorine
gas when it is exposed to air
Ca(OCl)2 + CO2 → CaCO3 + Cl2
ii) CaOCl2 + H2SO4 → CaSO4 + Cl2 + H2O
Cl2 (Chlorine) gas is evolved during this reaction.
iii) It is used for bleaching of wool and cotton in textile
industry.
(ii) For disinfectiong of drinking water.
VII. 21)

a) H2SO4 test tube i.e A will show more Vigorous reactions

b) Since acidic strength of H2SO4 is more than H2CO3
c) The liberated gas is H2 and it burns with popping sound.
d) Mg+H2SO4→MgSO4+H2
Mg+H2CO3→MgCO3+H2
e)
i) Since H2SO4 is more acidic, it will have lower pH value.
ii) Test tube B will have lower H+ concentration as H2CO3 is a
weak acid.
