nuclear power and mechanics. Not all safety engineers are engineers. In fact, graduates with various
technical degrees may have a more formal education in security than graduates with an engineering

Recognizing the impact of environmental factors on people.

Assessing the potential risks of environmental stressors.
Prescribing ways to eliminate stressors.

Health physicists are primarily interested in radiation in the workplace. Their missions include
monitoring air radiation, measuring radioactivity levels in biological samples, developing radiation
components in corporate emergency action plans and overseeing decontamination activities.

Occupational physicians are doctors who specialize in work-related health problems and injuries. In
the past, industrial physicians treated injuries and illnesses when they occurred. Today's occupational
