Typhoon Neneng victims at 103,662; leaves behind

agricultural-infrastructural damage

Typhoon Neneng has greatly affected 103,662 individuals, said the National Disaster Risk
Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Tuesday. They are all from Cagayan Valley,
Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and Ilocos Region.

There were 4,459 persons who were displaced by the flood, while some of them filled many
evacuation centers. Two people are currently injured, but one man died by drowning in Ilocos
Norte.

1,301 individuals were also rescued by 16 Search, Rescue, and Retrieval (SRR) teams from the
Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and Philippine Coast
Guard (PCG).
Other government agencies also worked together with the distribution of relief goods and
assistance of affected families.

Damages to agriculture and infrastructure

1,124 farmers and fishermen were also affected by the typhoon–as their 503.57 hectares of
corn, high-value crops, and rice were destroyed. It is estimated that the total cost of the
agricultural loss is P7,687,525.38, said the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management
Council.

On the other hand, government facilities, several control projects, and roads were damaged. It
amounting to an infrastructure loss of P49.8 million.

Scattered rains and wind hazards

The country experienced showers of rain and localized thunderstorms, said the Philippine
Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

PAGASA cautions fisherfolk with their fishing boats and other small seacrafts not to set forth into
the sea, while larger sea vessels are advised for the big waves.

Typhoon Maymay was the 13th tropical cyclone for 2022 and the first for the month of October.
Typhoon Neneng is the 14th and the second of the month.

Typhoon Neneng already left the Philippine area of responsibility last night, October 17.
Nevertheless, another low-pressure area was observed in the east of Northern Luzon. It has a
chance of progressing into a tropical cyclone in the area.
