CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION

A. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Distance learning mode of education is a technique or procedure where teachers and

students do not meet in a classroom but use the Internet or modular. Either students

attends online class or modular style. It is the way that learners can only stay at their

homes while taking their class. Others use different apps to attend their class or also

called online class. This is the medium where they meet through online and teachers will

deliver his or her lectures to their students.

Distance learning is advantageous since it allows for learning at any time and from

any location. Distance education benefits both accomplishment and learning. Staying at

home is safer and less stressful for students during pandemics. Distance education

contributes to a variety of physical and psychological health concerns, including fear,

anxiety, stress, and attention problems. Many schools lack enough infrastructure as a

result of the pandemic’s rapid transition to online schooling. by AR Masalimova.

Seeing that the pandemic started, this kind of learning mode is the most effective

way and the most prominent way for the students as staying at home is more safer than

going to school due to the virus. Student can also choose when, where and how they do

their activities. And they can select the place where they can comfortably undertake their

studies. Moreover, this can also be the problem of the students. Some can't afford this

kind of learning because of the use of the internet, others don't even have gadgets to use,

also time is the enemy to every students. Time management can be a challenge for many

educators. That they can't even barely manage their time to study and to help household

chores the entire day. So, distance learning mode of education is also not advisable.

Furthermore, even if this is not affordable, students have no choice but to accept.

This type of education is not so good and not so bad. There are advantages and

disadvantages. Just do the right thing, more safest way and no harm to us.

B. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study is all about how the students manage this mode of learning. Particularly, it

aims to answer the following questions.

1. What are the different apps that the students use on this kind of learning mode?

a. Google Meet

b. Messenger

c. Zoom

2. What device that the students use for distance learning?

a. Desktop

b. Smartphone

c. Tablet

d. Laptop

3. What is the average amount of time the student spend each day on distance learning?

a. 1-3 hours

b. 3-5 hours
c. 5-7 hours

4. What are the challenges that they may encounter on this kind of learning mode?

5. Are they satisfied with the technology and software they are using for distance

learning?

C. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

According to the researchers study, distance learning mode of education gives

satisfaction to the students and educators. They will be benefited by allowing the students

to access numerous learning tools using minimum financial resources, this also improves

their time management. Their expenses also decreases when it comes to distance learning

mode since transportational expenses are expensive. While the educators increases their

flexibility to gain the knowledge and skills they need to do their job better.

D. SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

The general purpose of this study is to identify the advantages and disadvantages in

this mode of education that the students and educators may experience. This study also

focuses on the effects of distance learning in different circumstances especially when

COVID-19 virus started.

E. DEFINITION OF TERMS

ONLINE CLASS- the delivery of educational content and instruction through the

internet.

PANDEMIC- the worldwide spread of a new disease.

DISTANCE LEARNING- refers to any education provided without the teacher and

students being physically present together.

MODULAR LEARNING- a style of education based on modules.

COVID- 19- a disease caused by a virus named SARS-CoV-2
