Assignment 1

1. Full name using the International Phonetic Alphabet: ænθəni kən’dɛloʊ ɑgwiər
– æ (ah) – n (n) – θ (th) - ə (eh) – n (n) – I (ee)

2. There are several reasons why the name Mr. Sklar could be mistaken as Mr. Skylar or
Mr. Syklar. The first reason is due to the close resemblance in phonetic similarity
between Sklar and “Skylar”. When pronouncing all three names, they do not include
any special characters from the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). As a result, it
can be very common for someone to look at the name Mr. Sklar, and have their brain
fill in the gaps as a default cognitive process by adding a Y similar to the word Sky,
and a popular noun as well. Secondly, when pronouncing the -k sound in Skler, it is
common to pronounce it as a [kah] sound, providing some glide to the letter instead
of a sharp K, creating the pronunciation that can resemble closer to Skylar.

4. The phrase focuses on the rhinoceros and what it is wearing. If there is no rhinoceros
in the question, the entire question lacks a valid structure or premise. The question
also plays on a highly absurd scenario which creates humour in language. The
question also lacks prior context of why its wearing shoes or if it is in a crawlspace
and why. Without contextual clues, the question lacks validity.
