5. How do you feel for the daughter at forty-three?

It saddens me to think that at age of 43, she still doesn't have a husband and unable to
enjoy her life. In the poem, the daughter sounded so desperate for her mother to just give
her away. I don't know anything about Vietnamese culture but in my point of view, as a
woman, it seems the mother became too selfish and stole her daughter's opportunity to
be happy. But if we look at point of view of her mother, she just did what she think would
her daughter deserve. We can also say that setting her a high price means that her
daughter is valuable and precious and "giving her away" will be most likely means that her
daughter is not that desirable and special.

VALUING:
1. What family, economic, education, and social values should be cherished based on
the poem?
Based on the poem, the values of respect and obedience is widely evident wherein the
daughter quietly accept the family's tradition and their culture. In economic and social
values, preserving culture is another thing that needs to be cherished. In our generation
today, cultures and traditions were being neglected and near to be forgotten that's why it
is necessary to keep it alive as we preserve our own identity and integrity.

2. Does obedience always give optimistic result?

Expressing obedience or too much of it may not always be good. For example, in a parent
and child situation, if the parents always insist on their rules and always demand for strict
compliance, they take away the child's right to express their opinion by silencing their
voice to reason out. It discourages healthy communication, wherein the child never
disagrees to anything and never has the chance to explain or justify their views, and
eventually adapting this behavior when they get older. That is why, in general, an
individual should not be solely raised as an obedient person, but also an independent
thinker who knows how to speak their minds and practice the sense of responsibility and
accountability over their own views and decisions.
