Important information
Medical and Travel Insurance
It is compulsory for International students to have appropriate and current medical and travel
insurance whilst in New Zealand. You can purchase this insurance from Otago Polytechnic. Evidence of
medical and travel insurance including the full policy wording and schedule of benefits in English
language must be provided (if you have made other arrangements) and be approved by Otago
Polytechnic before enrolment can be completed. You must declare any pre-existing conditions to the
Insurance provider directly.

Immigration Requirements
All International Students must meet the requirements of Immigration New Zealand (INZ) to study in
New Zealand. Please refer to their website (www.immigration.govt.nz). Immigration New Zealand
requires all International students to have evidence of sufficient funds to cover living expenses for the
duration of their visa. Currently, INZ estimate the cost of living expenses per year in New Zealand to be
NZD$20,000 or NZD$1,667 per month.
