The Uninvited Guest

A casual night in with friend goes south when an uninvited guest shows up.

Short Summary

A teenage girl (Max,,around 16 years old) is left home alone for the night while her parents
go out and decides to invite some friend’s round. While they're hanging out, they start to
hear noises from the basement. They don't think much of it and they dare Aria to go
down into the basement for a minute. When Aria tries to leave, she realizes the
doors locked behind her. Max, who lives in the house, reassures Aria that it’s normal
and the key is at the bottom of the stairs. Aria tries to find the key but can’t –
suddenly there is a scream from the basement. The Max and Charlie try to go to the
basement but can’t get in. There’s a phone call on the home phone and they answer
it. There's a creepy male voice on the phone who tells them they've made a mistake
sending them down to the basement. They hear more noises coming from the room
next to them, so they run and hide. The episode ends when Max and Charlie are
about to get found.

Intentions

My intentions for this audio drama are to create something entertaining that will scare
people even without visuals. I want the dialogue to be natural and relatable for the
listeners. I also want them to be immediately hooked and want to listen to more after the
episode has finished. I will do this by having a cliff hanger as well as keeping the dialogue
and sound engaging.
Target audience

The target audience is teenagers and young adults – ages 15-25. Adults ages 30-44 are the
age group who like the horror genre the most. However, because of the ages of the
characters in the audio drama, it will most likely appeal to people of a similar age because
they can relate to them. It will be targeted towards both genders and have a mixture of
both males and females in it. The interests of my target audience will be horror, socialising
and mystery.

Genre

The genre I have chosen is horror because I feel like it will be fun to make and it’s not
something I’ve tried out before with any other project.

Codes and Conventions

The codes and conventions or an audio drama are: words and voices, music and ambience,
sounds and silence and cliff-hangers. In my audio drama I will be using all of these in order
to make it sound as realistic as possible and help the listener understand what’s going on. I
will be having a cliff hanger so that the listener will want to come back to listen to more.
