1. Hand Tool

A hand tool is any tool that is powered by hand rather than a motor. Categories of hand tools include
wrenches, pliers, cutter, files, striking tools, struck or hammered tools, screwdrivers, vises, clamps, snips,
hacksaws, drills, and knives.

2. Measuring Tools

A measuring tool is anything used to take a count of quantitative data, such as weight, length, time or
temperature. Rulers and scales are two common types of measuring tools.

Compass – The architect commonly uses it for drawing the circles. It is also used for measuring the
distance between 2 points on the map.

Calipers - Measuring Instrument. Calipers. A commonly used tool for measuring the length, thickness,
diameter, and depth of an object is a caliper.

Protractor - is a circular or semicircular tool for measuring an angle or a circle.

3. Farm Implement

means a complete unit that performs a specialized mechanical function and which is identifiable as a
specific piece of equipment that is ordinary and customarily used on a farm.

Tools

What is meant is a simple type of equipment which is used manually by the farmer. The tools are all
hand held and operated manually.

Fork Hoe: this tool is to be used for loosening, lifting and turning over soil by gardeners or farmers.

Spade and shovel: this tool is to be used to break any lumps in soil. The tool is angled forward for
digging and scooping.

Sickle: this tool is used for harvesting. It has a curved blade and wooden handle.

Cutlass: this tool is a flat metal long blade with a wooden handle with one sharp edge for clearing of
bushes, cutting of tree branches, etc.
Machinery

Cultivator: This implements is used for removing weeds, preparing soil for planting.

The use of this implement allows soil to be aerated and also water can penetrate down to roots.

Harrow: This implements is used after ploughing operations. It will smooth out the field surfaces.

Plough: This implement lus used for turning over the upper layer of the soil so that fresh nutrients are
brought up, buried weeds and remains of previous crops.

Tractor: Probably the most used and most important machinery in a farm. It is used for pulling or
pushing agricultural for planting, tilling, ploughing, harrowing etc.

Harvester: Mechanical harvesting is the order of the day these days due to problems of farm laborers.
Larger amount of crop can be harvested quickly and most efficiently.

Knapsack Sprayer: this machine could be manual, electric or petrol driven. It is used to apply soluble
pesticides to plants. A much used piece of equipment.

4. Farm Equipment

Farming tools and equipment are critical to the success of a farmer. These tools help make farming
easier and more efficient. Many farming products are created for a single task, while some are used for a
number of purposes across the farm.

5. Horticulture Tools

In horticulture, various tools, implements, and equipment are used to perform tasks related to the
cultivation, care, and maintenance of plants. These tools can be classified into several categories based
on their functions and uses. Here's an overview:

I. Hand Tools:

Pruners/Secateurs: These are used for cutting small branches, stems, and leaves. They come in various
sizes and types for different pruning needs.

Shears: Shears have longer blades and are used for trimming hedges and shrubs.

Trowel: A small hand tool with a pointed, scoop-shaped blade for digging and transplanting.

Hand Fork: A forked tool for loosening and turning soil in small areas.

Weeder: Designed to remove weeds from the soil by their roots.

Hand Cultivator: Used for breaking up soil and removing weeds in tight spaces.
II. Digging Tools:

Shovel: Used for digging, lifting, and moving soil, compost, or other materials.

Spade: Similar to a shovel but with a flatter, square blade, often used for edging and cutting sod.

Garden Fork: Has sturdy, broad tines for loosening and aerating soil.

III. Watering Tools:

Hose and Nozzle: Used for watering plants, lawns, and gardens.

Watering Can: Suitable for precise watering of potted plants and small areas.

Sprinkler: Automatically disperses water over a larger area.

IV. Cutting and Pruning Tools:

Loppers: Designed for cutting larger branches and stems.

Hedge Trimmers: Used for trimming and shaping hedges and bushes.

Saws: Pruning saws are used to cut thick branches and woody growth.

V. Soil Preparation Tools

Rototiller: Mechanized equipment for breaking and tilling soil.

Cultivator: A smaller, hand-held version of the rototiller for soil cultivation.

VI. MeasuringTape: Used for measuring distances and ensuring proper spacing of plants.

Stakes and Labels: Marking tools to identify and label plants or garden sections.

VII. Pest and Disease Control Tools:

Sprayers: Used to apply pesticides, insecticides, or fungicides.

Hand Dusters: For distributing powdered pesticides.

VIII. Miscellaneous Tools:

Wheelbarrow: A portable cart for transporting soil, mulch, and other materials.

Garden Gloves: Protect hands while working with plants and soil.

Kneeling Pad: Provides comfort while kneeling or sitting during gardening tasks.
