Throwing away empty pens or refills and buying new ones can really be costly and it adds
waste which is bad for the environment. Instead, recycling pens and used charcoal as substitute
for ink will be accessible, affordable, and beneficial to the environment. This study focuses on
investigating on the possibility of utilizing used charcoal refill ink for pens.
Seven (7) trials were tested with different kind of solvents. For all trials, three (3) grams of
finely pounded used charcoal was mixed with different solvents. Based from the results, the best
solvents out of all that were tested are ethyl alcohol and isopropyl alcohol because the ink lasted
for about one-hundred twenty (120) hours and forty-eight (48) hours respectively. Among the
seven (7) trials, the researchers manages to fill three (3) fountain pen cartridges (5mL capacity)
