Title: Cellular Organisation


Aim: To make drawing of a typical plant and animal cell as seen under the microscope
Materials: Microscope, pipette, iodine solution, slides, tooth picks, cover slips, water,
onion cells, cheek cells.

Method A:
1. A tooth pick was used to rub off cells from the lining of the inside of the cheek.
2. The cells were placed in the middle of a microscope slide and spread out.
3. Two drops of iodine solution were added on the cells.
4. A cover slip was placed over the stained cells.
5. A tissue was then used to clean any excess solution on the slide, the slide was placed
under the microscope and a drawing of the cell was done.

Method B:
1. A small piece of onion was cut and the epidermis from the onion was peeled off.
2. Two drops of water were added in the center of the slide, then the onion was placed on
the slide and spread out.
3. A cover slip was placed over the cell.
4. Using a tissue, any excess solution on the slide was cleaned, the slide was then placed
under the microscope and a drawing of the cell was done.
