Guidelines & Rules for Chalk Artists


ARTISTS

• All artists must be registered to chalk. Payments must accompany registration

• All artists must read, agree to and sign an Artist Disclaimer & Waiver to participate.

• Art square spaces will be assigned at registration.

• Art square preference will be given to pre-registered artists.

• Artists should be finished by 3pm on Saturday for judging.

• Adult, Youth & Family/Team Artists spaces will be approximately 6’x6’.

• Additional space may be available for additional cost.

• Adult, Youth & Family/Team Artists may use all or part of the assigned space.

• All artists may register additional chalk art for an additional fee.

CHALK

• One box of pastel chalk will be provided per Adult, Youth and Family/Team registered.

• Additional chalk can be brought by the artist (must be water based) or purchased at registration
area for a fee.

• Please return all unused chalk to the registration booth.

• Only chalk can be used for drawings. No paint, crayon, ink or other non-washable or permanent
products. No fixatives may be used on the chalk drawings.

RULES

• Chalk art only to be produced in designated and assigned areas.

• Artist site will be assigned and artist number to be visible at all times.

• Art created must be suitable for public and family viewing (no nude, or lewd art). No words or
symbols intended as political statements may appear within the art.

• Festival Committee reserves the right to refuse, stop or eliminate objectionable material. The
committee’s opinion will be final. No refunds will be given. If artists have questions, it is
recommended that artists produce a paper copy of their art for approval prior to event date.

• Please respect all other artists who are working near you. Do not walk on their art or have open
beverage containers, which could spill and destroy artwork.

• Please try to keep your supplies to a minimum and well contained in your space.

• The event will go on rain or shine, artists are responsible for protecting their art. Plastic drapes,
tape, tents or canopies can be used as needed.

• Otsego Chamber of Commerce will use photos and videos of all art and artists.

• No radios allowed. Headphones and earbuds should be used.

• No pets please!

• All art must only include chalk. Any non chalk props or items will exclude art from judging.

• No smoking in area of artists.

ARTISTS TIPS

• If reproducing a photo or other art – it is respectful to honor the original artist.

• Make several copies of your artwork, if more than one artist.

• Grids to be drawn for correct proportions.

SUGGESTED SUPPLIES

• Wisk broom.

• Heavy fabric, carpet square or cardboard to stand, kneel or lean on to not smear your work.

• Soft towel, gardener’s pad or knee pads to kneel on.

• Chalkboard eraser, foam, terry cloth or short cut brushes for blending larger areas.

• Water and a cloth or sponge to erase unwanted chalk.

• Old towels, rags.

• Additional chalk.

• Cotton gloves.

• Sunscreen, hats, umbrella or sunglasses.

• Canopies are allowed (10x10 or less)

• Refreshments, closed containers only.

• No glass allowed

• Camera!!

Masterpieces

• Start from the top!

• Remove masking tape to reveal finished product.

• Do not blow or fan excess chalk. It will dull your colors.

• Intense color by applying more than one application.

• Sign your work!
