GYPSUMBOARD SUSPENDED CEILING

The sequence to be maintained is as follow s

► Mark the layout of ceiling on the walls with the help of chalkline powder as
per the levels indicated in the shop drawing.

► Fix the perimeter angle on the chalkline marks with the help of steel nails
or 25 mm self taping screws. The perimeter angle should be fixed 12.5 mm
above the exact level of Suspended Ceiling.

► After fixing the perimeter angle on the walls, hang G.I. wires of suitable
length from the structural soffit at a distance of 1200 mm c/c with the help
of bullets driven in structural soffit with a beta gun. Incase of truss above,
the hangers are to be suspended from these by tieing the hanger wire to
them. In case no purlin/truss is available above, additional cross supports
(C studs) should be fixed above the existing supports. Care should be
taken to maintain all hangers’ vertical adjustable clip should be installed in
the wire hangers for leveling the Suspended Ceiling.

► After suspending the G.I. wire, fix the main channels or intermediate
channels to G.I. wires with the help of U Channel clips at a spacing of
1200 mm c/c.

► Fix the furring channels at a spacing of 600 mm c/c at right angels to the
intermediate channels. The main channels and the intermediate channels
are connected to the furring channel with the help of wire clips. The ends
furring channels should be rest on the perimeter angle and should be
fixed/riveted to the perimeter angle with the help of 25 mm self taping
screws. Where channel section have to be joined, they should be
overlapped back to back by 150 mm and fixed together with rivets.

► The furring channels are to be fixed to the main channel with the help of
wire clips.

► After completion of the framework, 12.5 mm thick taper edge gypsum

board should be fixed to the furring channel and perimeter channels with
the help of 35 mm self taping screws to all members at 230 mm centre to
centre. The board should be fixed with the long edges at right angles to
the furring channel joints should be staggered wherever possible.
► After completion of fixing of gypsum boards, the joints have to be sealed as
per the following procedure.

• Apply readily available joint compound evenly and fully over the
gypsum board joint duly filling the voids between the edges of the
boards.

• Centre the joint tape reinforcement between the board joints and press it
down into the fresh joint compound.

• When the tape is embedded apply a skim coat of joint compound

immediately after embedding.

• After the embedding and covering coat is completely dry apply the second
coat with the use of a 300mm trowel feathering approximately 25mm
beyond the edges of the first coat.

• After the second coat is dry, sand lightly and apply a thin finishing coat of
topping compound to joints with a 300mm trowel. Feather the joint edges
at least 25mm beyond the second coat.

• After the third coat is dry sand and surface lightly to achieve a flat smooth
surface ready to receive the final finish.

• The same procedure is to be followed for screw heads.

• For finishing inside corners fold tape along the centre crease. Coat both
corner edges with joint compound and apply tape and repeat the same
procedure.

• For finishing the external corners, use metal corner tape and repeat the
same procedures
DRY WALL PARTITIONS / Wall Cladding
The following sequence should be maintained while carrying out the
construction of Dry wall Partitions

► Proper layout should be marked with the chalk line powder on the floor as
per the working drawings. This layout should be approved by the
concerned authority or the Site Engineer before proceeding with the actual
work.

► Install Studs on mall existing block wall by using steel nail on G.I studs and
install G.I runners with track on studs by using self holes make screw to
receive Gypsum Board.

► After fixing ceiling and tracks and runners, erect studs at a distance of 600
mm c/c and rivet the studs to the runners at ceiling and floor after aligning
vertically with the help of plumb bob.

► After completing the erection of gypsum boards, the following procedure

has to be carried out to fill the joints between the boards:

► After the embedding and covering coat is completely dry apply the second
coat with the use of a 300 mm trowel feathering approximately 25 mm
beyond the edges of the first coat.

► After the second coat is dry, sand lightly and apply a thin finishing coat of
topping compound to joints with a 300 mm trowel. Feather the joint edges
at least 25 mm beyond the second coat.

► After the third coat is dry sand the surface lightly to achieve a flat smooth
surface ready to receive the final finish.

► The same procedure is to be followed for screw heads.

► For finishing inside corners fold tape along the centre crease. Coat both
corner edges with joint compound and apply tape and repeat the same
procedure.

► For finishing the external corners, use metal corner tape and repeat the
same procedures.
DOOR FRAME INSTALLATION
DOOR FRAMES:

PARTITIONS

► Fix the vertical member of the doorframe to the studs as per the openings
provided in the framework of partitions.

► The studs on which the doorframe have been fixed are to be screwed at
the bottom and at the top with base track and ceiling after aligning it
vertically with the help of a plumb bob.

► Fix the door vertical member on the outer side of the opening.

► After fixing the vertical frame, place the horizontal frame on the vertical
members.

► Care should be taken while erecting the vertical members so that the hinge
member will be placed on the proper side as per the opening of the door.

IRONMONGERY INSTALLATION

Door Locks:

► Mark the level of the door lock with respect to the level of the striker plate
on the doorframe. In timber doorframes the striker plate needs to be
installed separately with the help of screws provided.

► Chisel out the core of the shutter from the side as per the size of the lock
and according to the instruction manual for the particular lock.
PAINTING / VARNISHING
Painting on Block Walls / Gypsum Boards

► The surface of the walls to be made perfectly even by filling up the

undulations with joint compound/putty.

► Excess projections from the level of the walls to be removed or sanded off
and putty applied to level it smoothly.

► On the even surface of the wall, apply primer with the help of a paint roller.
st
► After applying primer, apply 1 coat of paint to the wall surface.

► After allowing to the paint to dry, apply the second coat of paint.

► While applying paint to the gypsum boards, proper care should be taken to
cover the omegas top trim and bottom trims with masking tape. Preferably
omegas installed only after the completion of the painting works.

► After drying of the second coat the surface should be inspected and if
unequal layers of paint are visible, a third coat of paint should be applied
on it.

Painting for Timber Members

► Fill up the surface of the timber frame/shutter with stucco putty.

► Sand smooth the surface of timber with a zero number sanding paper.
► After sanding surface properly, apply primer on the surface.

► After application of primer, sand the surface again to prepare a smooth

surface ready to receive the first coat of paint.

► Apply the first coat of plastisan paint or any other specified paint with the
help of a spray gun on the primed and sanded surface.

► After allowing it to dry properly, apply the second coat of paint.

► If unequal patches of paint are visible then a third coat of paint is to be

applied over it.
Varnishing for Timber Members

► Cover the surface of the timber frame/shutter with filler of the required
shade/colour.

► Sand the surface of timber lightly with a zero number sanding paper.

► After sanding surface properly, apply a coat of sealer on the surface with
the help of a spray gun.

► After sealer has dried, apply a coat of the varnish/thinner as specified, with
the help of a spray gun.

► A second coat of varnish is then applied on this after the first coat has
dried.

CERAMIC TILES / STONE INSTALLTION

Floor Tiles

► Clean the surface on which the tiles are to be placed.

► Place the specified mortar glue on the even surface. If the surface is not
even, then a layer of cement screed should be layer and the surface
smoothened.

► Place the tiles on the mortar. Proper and equal space should be
maintained between the tiles with the help of the specified joint spacers.

► After placing tiles in a proper line and as per the required pattern and the
mortar has set, the joints are to be filled with a cement grout as per the
specified colour and relief i.e. flush or recessed.

► After the grout has set it should be cured by watering the same if instructed
by the site engineer.
