Work Method Statement ForTile Flooring

This document provides work method statements for tile flooring and wall tiling. Key steps include: 1. Preparing the surface by removing debris, checking for variations in tiles, and ensuring proper slope or verticality of backing. 2. Laying out tile layout plans and marking finished floor levels. 3. Applying mixed adhesive to the surface using a notch trowel in small sections. 4. Fixing tiles to the surface using spacers between tiles and checking for levelness. 5. Completing installation of border and edge tiles last.

WORK METHOD STATEMENT FOR TILE FLOORING

Materials:
Tile, Adhesive, PVC Spacer

Tools and Equipment’s:

Notch trowel, Right angle, plumb pop, Spirit level, Water level, 3meter long Aluminum straight
edge, Adhesive mixing machine, measuring tape, chisel, mortar pan, bucket, nylon thread, rubber
hammer.

Preparatory Work:
 The Surface on which the tiles will be laid should be cleared of all debris and loose
materials.it should be washed, if required.
 Final clearance from MEP department should be taken before starting the work.
 If any variation in colour, texture or size is observed on the tiles when the boxes are
opened, then such tiles should be segregated and kept apart for replacement.
 Screed should be laid in perfect horizontal in the rooms and at required slope in the
toilets.
 For wall tiling the backing plaster should be checked for verticality by using spirit level.
and for right angles at corner. The backing plaster should be rough for better bonding of
tiles on the wall.
 The backing plaster should be cured sufficiently.
 The relevant size spacer and PVC corner beading should be available.
 With respect to the meter marking, floor finished level should be marked.
 For floor tile setting out tile layout plan should be done as per the setting out drawing
given by the architect.
 Mechanical mixing machine should be available to ensure thorough mixing of the tile
adhesive.

Work Methodology:
Tile Dado
When tile adhesive are used to fix the tiles on to a given surface and the bed thickness does not
exceed 6mm
 From FFL 1 meter level marking should be done on all the walls from finished floor
level.
 Height equal to the length of one tile is marked on the wall from FFL at the lowest point
of the area. In toilets this level is transferred to all the walls of the room. This is done to
ensure that the bottom most row of tile is never less than the length of one tile.so that is
being fixed over the wall.
 An aluminium straight edge kept at this level along the length of the wall and levelled by
using the spirit level. The aluminium straight edge is supported at two ends.
 The tile adhesive should be mixed as per proportion prescribed by the manufacturer by
using mechanical mixer.
 The adhesive should be lumps free.
 An adhesive is floated over the dry back plaster surface of the wall and the optimum
adhesive tile thickness.
 Adhesive should be applied over an area not exceeding 1 sq.mt. This is to ensure that tiles
are fixed over the adhesive before within the open life of mix.
 Using the notch trowel (teethed) groove markings are made on the applied adhesive along
the horizontal direction.
 Then the tile is fixed onto the walls above the aluminium straight edge. Mild pressure is
applied with hands to ensure proper adhesive
 As per specification, wall tiles have a gap of 2mm spacing between each other along all
the edges. This is achieved by using PVC spacers. The tiles are laid along the length of
wall with spacer in between.
 Between two tiles the spacer are placed next to the tile at top and the bottom of tile
corner.
 The tiles are laid one next to the other till the entire length is covered. Then the next line
of tiles are laid over the top edge of the previous line of tile with spacers.
 Intermittently do the check of level of tile face by using spirit level or plumb. Every time
after fixing a tile in horizontal and vertical direction.
 The tiles along the borders will be fixed after the full tiles have been fixed.
 So wall tile is done for the entire toilet up to the height of 300mm above ceiling level.
 The bottom row of tile will complete after completing the floor tiles.
 All the edges, PVC corner beading has to be fixed.

TILE FLOORING
 The concrete slab surface should be thoroughly cleaned.
 Setting out work for the tile flooring laying should be completed as per architectural
drawings.
 Adhesive is floated over the floor surface not more than 1 sq.mt.This using the notch
trowel adhesive marking are made on the applied adhesive.
 As per drawing the starting point of the tile is fixed along with all full tiles are laid and
then corner and edge tile are laid.
 For flooring PVC spacers are used on all the corners of tiles.
 The level of tiles should be checked every tome by using spirit level if any undulation can
be levelled by using rubber hammer.
 A skirting tiles are laid as said above by applying adhesive on the surface of wall using
spacer and all joints should be matched to the floor tiles.
 At where the other type of floor is coming, SS angle should be fixed on the concrete
surface of the floor.
