A Descriptive Essay About A Person

Crafting a descriptive essay about a person might initially seem like a straightforward task, as it
revolves around providing a detailed account of an individual's characteristics, traits, and
experiences. However, delving into the intricacies of capturing a person's essence through words can
prove to be a challenging endeavor.

One of the primary challenges lies in the balance between objectivity and subjectivity. On one hand,
you aim to portray the person accurately, presenting a realistic and honest depiction of their physical
appearance, personality, and actions. On the other hand, injecting a personal touch to make the essay
engaging and unique is equally essential. Striking this equilibrium requires careful consideration of
language choices, tone, and the overall narrative structure.

Moreover, the challenge extends to the inherent subjectivity of perception. Each individual perceives
others differently based on their own perspectives, experiences, and biases. Attempting to encapsulate
the multifaceted nature of a person within the confines of an essay demands a heightened level of
sensitivity and a nuanced approach.

Another obstacle is the avoidance of clichГ©s and generic descriptions. The task is not merely to list
physical attributes but to delve deeper, providing insights into the person's character, motivations,
and impact on others. Finding fresh and vivid language to convey these aspects without resorting to
overused phrases requires a keen sense of observation and creativity.

The time-consuming nature of the writing process is yet another hurdle. Creating a vivid portrayal
involves meticulous attention to detail, thoughtful reflection, and multiple revisions to refine the
prose. It's not just about putting words on paper but sculpting a narrative that evokes a genuine sense
of the person being described.

In conclusion, writing a descriptive essay about a person demands a delicate balance of objectivity
and subjectivity, a keen awareness of individual perception, an avoidance of clichГ©s, and a
commitment to the time-consuming process of refining the narrative. It is a task that challenges both
writing skills and emotional intelligence, requiring the writer to immerse themselves deeply into the
essence of the person under scrutiny.

If you find yourself grappling with such a writing task or any other academic assignments, assistance
is available. Various resources, including professional writing services likeHelpWriting.net, offer
support for crafting essays, ensuring that the final product meets both the technical and creative
demands of the task at hand.

Nathaniel Hawthorne s Life And Accomplishments
Nathaniel Hawthorne was born in 1804 and died in 1864. He was born in Salem,
Massachusetts. His father died young and he lived in with his strict mother while he
was a child. His great great grandfather was a strict judge in the Salem Witch Trials.
The family felt they had been cursed by their connection to this sad event. It also
happens that his family had been a very wealthy/ influential family during Puritan times
and was still well off, so he was the beneficiary of these Puritan wrongs. Therefore,
much of Hawthorne s writing deals with his shame over his connection to the Puritans. It
was hard for him to make money, so he had many government related jobs. He hated
Salem but he had to stay because he had to make money. He
Book Review Of Maxwell Erake s The Fair Bwennivere
The novel is set in a version of Portsmouth, New Hampshire.[2] In the beginning of the
book, Maxwell Kane is a young boy with low self esteem. He lives with his
grandfather, Grim, and grandmother, Gram. Max thinks of himself as a butthead.
People are afraid of him because he looks like his father, Kenneth Killer Kane, a
convicted murderer. Max sets the stage for the story by reminiscing about his time in
daycare, when he had met a boy named Kevin, or Freak, as their classmates called
him. Kevin has Morquio syndrome, wears leg braces and uses crutches, and thinks of
himself as a robot and is bullied by many bigger kids due to his short height. However,
Max likes Kevin and thinks the crutches and leg braces are neat. Many years later,
when Max is in middle school, he finds out that Freak and his mother, Gwen (referred
to as The Fair Gwennivere ) are moving into the house next door. When Max initially
approaches Freak, Freak acts with hostility. However, some time later, Max saves
Kevin s toy ornithopter from a tree and they start to become friends. On the Fourth of
July, they go to see the fireworks show and are attacked by an older boy, Tony Blade D.
and his gang but avoid any mental or physical conflict. After the show, Blade chases
the two with his gang after Freak calls him a cretin. Despite Max s lack of knowledge
and disability, he escapes by acting on Freak s orders, but the two are driven into a
muddy millpond, Freak riding on Max s shoulders. Freak gets the
Benefits Of A Registered Pension Plan
On top of the benefits they receive from public pensions, some Canadians will also
receive benefits from employer sponsored pension plans If you or your spouse do not
have an employer pension benefit, you may wish to skip this chapter. A registered
pension plan (RPP) is an arrangement by an employer to provide pensions to retired
employees in the form of periodic payments. The Income Tax Act provides deductions
in respect of both employee and employer contributions. There are basically two main
types of employer pension plans: Defined benefit pension plan Defined contribution
pension plan 7.1 Defined Benefit Pension Plan With a defined benefit pension plan, the
amount of your pension is primarily defined by a set formula often based on your career
earnings and years of service. A typical formula for calculating a pension in a plan based
on the 5 year final average salary would be like this: Annual pension income = (2% x
years of service) x (average of the last five years of income) If you have been with the
employer for 30 years and the average income of your last five years is $80,000. The
your pension entitlement would be like this: (2% x 30) x $80,000 = 60% x $80,000 =
$48,000 Once you are vested in a DB plan, you are entitled to receive the benefits you
accrue while you are a member. If you leave the company before your retirement date,
you ll usually be offered a deferred pension or a lump sum buyout. With a defined
benefit plan, companies are required by law to make
Race And Social Race
Race, to many people is one thing and one thing only; the color of one s skin. But race
is more than just the color of one s skin, but it s their biological makeup and social
makeup. Biological race is the skin color we are born with along with the other genetic
traits that come with certain ethnic backgrounds. Social race, however, is how society
depicts your skin color and biological traits, and decides from there what social class
you may be placed in, how you ll be treated, and how you ll live your life, socially. All
people are biologically born the same race as their parents, or a mix, if the parents are
different. But what determines the social race? Social race can be explained using the
blacks in Southern America during the times of segregation. Blacks were forced to
eat, drink, and sit in different places just because of their skin color. During this time
blacks were seen as scum of the Earth, dirty, and vile, just because of their skin color.
Many people thought that blacks carried diseases and lacked intelligence in early
America. Later you had pictures and drawings of human skulls and black skulls that
were always seen as less desirable and less beautiful, just because their skulls tended to
be more oval in shape and not round like the whites. Though there can be strictly
biological racismand strictly social racism, they both go hand in hand in many cases.

The Pros And Cons Of The Bush Doctrine
In Statecraft, from turn zero it was apparent terrorism was going to be a prevailing
issue. In fact, only one nation, per the Bush Doctrine, was not a state sponsor of terror.
An important element of the Bush doctrine was the lack of distinction between terrorist
and anyone including the states who aid the terrorist. With terrorist surrounding my
nation from the west and south supporting terrorist organizations, I advised our nation
s leader to adhere to the Bush doctrine. Unfortunately, my fake nation s leader focused
on other things such as recycling. After our leader continually ignored numerous
warnings, our Capital and other cities were continually attacked by OLF and the
Typhoon pirates. Not being President, all I could do was the minimal, and otherwise
was forced to sit back and watch not only Elferians but the citizens of the entire
Statecraft world lose their family and friends from terrorist attacks. As Secretary of
State, I issued firm warnings to several nations reiterating the Bush Doctrine. This
warning was the extent of my willingness to negotiate on this matter. Gingrich suggest
that there is a price to pay to stand up to the schoolyard bully, but there is also a price
for not standing up. Gingrich s point is exactly what I was trying to convey to my fake
President. Negotiation on many issues is the first step. However, there are exceptions
which prevent the philosophy of always negotiate from being absolutized. I vowed never
to negotiate with terrorist
Role Of Neurological Change
The overall picture of neurological changes following early moderate PEE
1.1. The role of GABA signalling system in the developing brain
The embryonic brain development process commences after the neural tube is closed at
neurulation. Progenitor cells in the brain start to proliferate in the progenitor zone, where
they transform into postmitotic cells and migrate to different brain regions. Once they
reach their final destination, they start to grow their axons to make connections with
other cells (synaptogenesis). When the axons reach their correct targets, these
connections are strengthened by myelination [255]. In rodents, myelination continues
until the first two postnatal months [255].

1.2. Multi level abnormalities were detected in the brain following an early moderate
PEE profile
Our study showed that moderate PEE from GD0 8 can produce significant brain
abnormalities at a gross level as well as at microscopic level. These abnormalities may
be largely linked to the effects of ethanol in early gestation, which was shown to induce
disruption of the GABA signaling system, including altered functions and expression of
GABAa receptors. Brain alterations were observed in adult animals, suggesting long term
persistent teratogenic effects of PEE on the CNS.

A Interview With An Interview Essay
*For the purpose of this assignment and to keep the privacy of participates, the
interviewee will be addressed as such, or as Person A. The purpose of the assignment
was to interview another person and record it, then later analyze how well you used
interview techniques. The interview was to last fifteen minutes and discuss why your
interviewee had decided to choose a career in the health field. General Aspects of an
Interview Overall, the interview was accomplished with few complications. There
was definitely areas of the interview that need attending to, and there were areas in
which I excelled. The dyadic interview started with an opening statement. I attempted
to make Person A feel comfortable by asking a simple question of How are you today?
I believe I made Person A feel as comfortable as possible in front of a camera and build
a rapport. I could have asked one or two more easy questions to lighten the mood. I
was nervous being in front of a camera especially for an assignment worth a large
portion of my grade. When I m nervous I sometimes bite my lip and unfortunately
throughout the interview I chewed my lip. This could have made Person A feel
awkward if she took it in uncomfortable way. The listening aspect of the interview I
believe I did very well in. I gave attention to what Person A was saying and tried to ask
questions that allowed her to elaborate, although there were a few instances that I missed
the opportunity. I also tried to write some notes down
Healthcare Fraud and Abuse
Running head: HEALTHCARE FRAUD AND ABUSE

Healthcare Fraud and Abuse

Abstract
Rising costs of healthcare is a valid concern for many households in America. A factor
in the cost of healthcare insurance is fraud. Fraud is often very difficult to detect. The
magnitude of healthcare fraud is unknown. Initial reimbursement and payment and
billing timeframe of 90 days allows for fast payment of services, however, many times
before there is an indication of fraudulent billing the company has closed up and moved
on. Fraud in American healthcare, costs American s millions perhaps even billions of
dollars annually. Without doubt, behind every act of fraud lies a lapse in ethics. This

Abuse takes such forms as, but is not limited to: Over utilization of medical and health
care services; claims for services that are not reasonable and necessary, or if deemed
medically necessary, not to the extent rendered or billed; breaches of the assignment
agreement which result in beneficiaries being billed for amounts disallowed by the
carrier on the basis that such charges exceeded the Medicare Fee Schedule; exceeding the
Limiting Charge for non participating providers; violations of the Medicare
Participating Agreements by physicians, suppliers or practitioners. Many other forms
of abuse exist and some, including those described above, are ultimately found to be
fraudulent. When abuse is committed, the government can: Recover payment made in
error; invoke civil monetary penalties congruent to the degree of abuse; suspend the
provider from the Federal Healthcare Programs.(NHIC corp) The U.S. General

Obstacles In The Titans
The T.C. William Titans fought and overcame many obstacles throughout the season.
Some of these obstacles included racism, the team falling apart, and biased referees.
Even though all odds were against them, the Titans pulled through and managed to win
the state championship. The first, and main obstacle that the Titans faced was racism.
Racism was prevalent throughout the whole movie, but was worst in the beginning as
the team had not learned to accept each other yet. White players and parents didn t want
black players or a black coach, and many wanted to boycott T.C. Williams for allowing it.
Head coach, Herman Boone, solved this at the team s camp by forcing the players to get
to know each other, or face practice multiple times a day. Racism continued throughout
the movie, mostly from people outside of the team, but there was occasional racial
tension within the team. The Titans faced many other obstacles throughout the season,
but racism was the biggest one.... Show more content on HelpWriting.net ...

energy and bond a little more at their upcoming game. To do this, they decided to sing
during their usual warm up, which had the added benefit of distracting the other team
during their warm up. Without quickly realizing that the team was falling apart and that
they needed to do something to fix it, the Titans wouldn t have been able to win the state

to harming the water quality, as well as decreasing the amount of oxygen in the water
that many aquatic lifeforms need to survive. Algal blooms, excessive algae growth, will
cause deaths to large amounts of fish and also harm humans if they come into contact
with the polluted water or consume the affected organisms living in the algae infested
water. (United States Environmental Protection Agency) An example of widespread
algal blooms is shown in Figure 2 where much of the visible water is covered in algae,

Bacteriological quality standards are used to prevent diseases and sicknesses that can be

where other pathogens of fecal origins exists. Although disinfection periods try to clean

The Creation Of The Monster
Throughout his creation of the monster, he proves to be even more ignorant, because
it is apparent that he knows how much he is suffering by pursuing the creation. Victor
admits this by saying, I seemed to have lost all soul or sensation but for this one
pursuit... (Shelley, 40) Here Victor is accepting that everything around him has
merely vanished while he s trying to pursue this one creation. He becomes too
involved in his work, and it soon takes over his entire life. When he says that he has
lost his soul, this is a true statement, and unfortunately his soul never returns. Once he
begins to work on the creation, his soul is forever lost, and he no longer has a sense of
wrong or right, because while creating monster he was isolated from the rest of the
world. Victor s ignorance continues when he again states that the acquirement of
knowledge is dangerous, yet he continues to pursue the creation. He yet again states to
others, Learn from me, if not by my precepts, at least by my example, how dangerous
is the acquirement of knowledge, and how much happier that man is who believes his
native town to be his world, than he who aspires to become greater than his nature will
allow (Shelley, 39). This quote is very hypocritical, because Victor accepts that he would
ve been happier than he is now, if he hadn t begun the creation in the first place. Hearing
him say this makes him seem not only ignorant, but also very weak. He had to potential

Another major problem banks have had to content with is the inconsistency in monetary
and regulatory policies. The surveillance and regulatory measures of the Central Bank of
Nigeria (CBN) have unfortunately been unable to keep the pace with the rapidity of the
charges in the financial system.
All these factors deregulation, competition, innovation, economic recession, political
instability, escalating inflation, and frequent reversal in monetary policy have combined
to create a challenging and precarious financial environment for banks. Consequence of
the new financial environment has been rapidly declining profitability of the traditional
banking activities. Thus, in a bid to survive and maintain adequate profit level in this
highly competitive environment, banks have tended to take excessive risks. But, then
the increasing tendency for greater risk taking has resulted in insolvency and failure of a
large number of the banks [9].
The continuing deterioration in the financial health of the banks and increasing incidence
of bank failure since deregulation have raised question about the nature and state of the
Nigerian banking sector. 1. Statement of the Problem

Introduction

Since the introduction of bus service tendering in London in the mid 1980s, there has
been, according to London Transport Buses (1999), a dramatic improvement in both
the quality of bus services provided and the value for money achieved. However, the
rules of the game have changed considerably over time. Whereas in the first instance a
gross cost regime was used to let just a part of the network to public sector operators, in
recent years the whole of the network has been let in ... Show more content on

The last of these contracts expired earlier this year. To complete the process, the
Tendered Bus Division started to let competitive net cost contracts alongside competitive
gross cost contracts, the aim being to use the type of contract in any particular case
which delivered the best value for money and incentivised operators to improve service
quality. As of June 1999, only gross cost contracts have been offered.

Impacts of tendering

London Transport Buses (1999) claims a dramatic improvement in both the quality of
bus services provided and the value for money achieved. Other authors have assessed
these claims: White (2000), White and Tough (1995), Kennedy (1995b). Salient
features include: cost reductions of 47% per bus mile between 1985/6 and 1998/9
(White, 2000); a reduction in the number of bids per contract from 7 in early 1995 to 3
in late 1996 (ibid.); cheaper costs to the tendering authority of about 10% per bus mile
for gross contracts rather than net (White and Tough, 1995); and lower bid prices as the
number of bids exceeds four (Kennedy, 1995b).

PART B: PRINCIUPLES OF BUS TENDERING

We mean by tendering the allocation [by government agency] of a protected or

exclusive right to exploit or carry out an activity (Baldwin and Cave, 1999) such that
consumers or the public gain an advantage for example, an efficiently produced and
competitively priced service (ibid.).

Dementia Patients Communication Skills Essay
Effective Communication Strategies for Health Care Professionals in Dementia Units
For health care professionals (HCP) communicating with dementia patients can be
challenging in most health settings. Dementia is a degenerative disease that causes a
decline in cognitive and functional abilities, as the condition progresses the ability to
communicate worsens (Kilgore, 2015). HCP employed within dementia units require an
individual approach when communicating with patients, as people with dementia (PWD)
can become easily disorientated and confused (Kilgore, 2015). Nonverbal communication
such as listening can uncover underlying problems with patients health. Whereas, verbal
communication is the application of language, such as tone and simple ... Show more

Due to dementia patients deteriorating of cognitive function, this may have an effect
on whether or not a message is successfully understood (Downs Collins, 2015).
Communication is an extremely important part of caring for people with dementia, for
this reason ensuring information is delivered efficiently and meaningfully it is
imperative for HCP to develop tailored approaches (Downs Collins, 2015; Kilgore,
2015). Such methods that can improve communication with dementia patients are
reduce rate of speech with verbatim repetition with the use of simple sentences (de
Vries, 2013). Additionally, allowing the person time to process and respond to what
has articulated (de Vries, 2013). When talking to a PWD, talk in a clear voice and
allow them time to respond (McEvoy Plant, 2014). Closed questions may possibly be
used to facilitate the completion of daily activities whereas, open ended questions can
lead to conversations (de Vries, 2013; Kilgore, 2015). It has been assessed when verbally
communicating to people with dementia using a tone that exerts control or infantilising
communication also known as elder speak results in the patient becoming resistant to
care (de Vries, 2013). Through improving interactions with HCP, communication skills
can have significance on improving the quality of life and well being for those living
with dementia (McEvoy Plant, 2014). Being
Discuss The Arguments For The Rights And Privileges Of...
In this essay, I will be arguing for the rights and privileges of minority groups. I believe
that special privileges do not give minorities excessive benefits, and that these privileges
also do not infringe upon the rights or lifestyles of the majority. I will prove this through
the examination of several aspects of society and nation, including equality, nation
building, and identity. These three characteristics of multiculturalism and society will
help evidence the justification of minority rights in the face of opposing liberal majority
interests. To establish the need for minority rights, the concept of multiculturalism must
first be understood. Kymlicka describes multiculturalism as an umbrella term for the
claims of these ethnocultural... Show more content on HelpWriting.net ...
For most people, identity is intimately tied into their cultural/religious backgrounds.
When minorities are denied recognition of their backgrounds for the sake of the
majorities comfort, it denies minorities their right to cultural or ethnic identities.
Living in a society that has a mainstream culture contrary to one s own lifestyle makes
it difficult to embrace your own identity with pride, especially if that society s
government does not support your need for rights. As identity is so crucial in a person
s good life, it is unjust for a society to deny a person their right to celebrate the practices
of their culture or religion. Despite identity being considered a fairly basic right in
modern society, it is also where most of the issues surrounding minority rights occur.
Giving a group of people the right to practice a religion seems inherently just at first
glance, however what happens if the groups beliefs conflict with the liberal majority s
concept of human rights? In instances where the beliefs of the minority directly conflict
with the goals of the state (to protect its citizens), I believe it is justifiable for the state
to step in on behalf of the child s wellbeing. These instances, despite being well known,
are not as common as one might think. It is easy to criminalize minorities for specific
and rare instances of abuse, but overall it is empirically provable that most minority
groups only want special privileges in order to raise their position in society to be
equal. It is unusual for cases to be handled without precedents or established systems, but
in the case of multiculturalism I think that case to case examinations would be the most
effective way to police such crimes in minority groups. The fear that minorities may
abuse any special privileges they may be awarded does not justify the preemptive denial

Anthony wants female s rights to be heard and put to good use. She then talks about the

their liberty and freedom when they are denied their voice in the government. Their voice
was the only means of security and true protection. She is clearly stating that the
government has given women their freedom but hasn t let them use it by voting. This is
the heart of her argument, this shows that she wants the government to see the qualities

Anthony then talks about States making sex qualifications and how it is a violation of

Recently, there is an increasing number of methods, which are used to test medicine and
beauty products, are animal testing. In this case, numerous animals are tested in the
experiment. However, in laboratory testsпјЊanimal experiments still have defects that
need to be solved. Additionally, the animal testing is a defective method, but it still
widely used in normal life, which is utilized to get the result of new medicines and
feedback of cosmetic products. On this basis, a number of people have started to
consider whether it is inhumane to test on animal, however other people believe this is
effective for creating new medicine to heal miscellaneous diseases. This essay will
discuss some advantages and disadvantages of the animal testing. Nevertheless, most of
new medicines which are created still need testing on animal. Research done by Garattiui
and Grigusschi (2017) displayed that when science and technology has not yet reached a
certain level of advanced conditions, animal experiments are still the main approach to
find out the solution of diseases in treatments. There are plenty of benefits about using
animal testing to test new medicines and cosmetic products. The main advantage of
animal testing to test medicine is that it can carry out more experiments in shorter time.
This is because of most of growing up period animal is shorter than human. Ostergaard et

The Characteristics Of The Appearance Of Humans And
Humans
Millions of years ago, humans and animals were extremely similar in their appearance.
We shared many characteristics but the one that stood out the most was our abundance
of hair. However, as time went on, humans evolved in their physical appearance and we
started to lose most of the hair on our bodies. We are now bare and naked compared to
how we were, especially compared to animals.
Most of an animal s body is completely covered in hair and it serves as a layer of
protection from foreign bodies that can harm it s skin. Factors such as harmful sun rays
and parasites can take a toll on an animal s well being and that is why their hair is a
significant barrier. Also, for instance, when it is awfully cold in some parts of the
world, the animal s fur is the only thing preventing them from freezing to death. For
example, the Artic fox, commonly known as the white fox, lives in the Artic regions in
the North. It gets so cold in the winter, that if the fox did not have it s alabaster fur, it
would not be able to withstand it. Not only are animals furs a protective layer, but they
are a distinctive characteristic that sets some of them apart from the rest. A few
examples, would be the spotted pattern of a cheetah or the black and white stripes of a
zebra. These specific patterns help them to camouflage themselves against any prey or
predator and even to help recognize one from the other. I think this is such an interesting
characteristic that these animals have and it gives them

Both authors use techniques that introduce their main characters very carefully.
Barker does this with Sassoon s declaration and Rivers and Bryce discussing him, in
Journey s End the audience learns about Stanhope before he appears on stage through
Hardy and Osborne discussing his drink problem and then the audience is given the
contrasting aspect to his character with Raleigh eulogising him. Stanhope, a war hero,
is driven to drink in a struggle to maintain the courage he needs to lead his troops.
Sherriff shows the severe effect the war has had on Stanhope D you ever get a sudden
feeling that everything s going farther and farther away till you re the only one in the

universe and you struggle to get back and you can t? The use of a long sentence here
is a method of conveying his confusion and trauma. War has isolated Stanhope, he has
come to realise his own mortality, and alcohol is a comfort helping to dull the realities
of it all. Much in the same way as being mute is to prior when he arrives at
Craiglockhart. It is a defence mechanism, almost as if by not talking about his
experiences it would mean they never took place. Prior exposes the reader to a different
attitude to Rivers treatment by being stubborn and defensive showing

Dimethyl Ether And Propane Research Paper
The substances dimethyl ether and propane have both similarities and differences. Both
of these molecules two carbon atoms that have tetrahedral molecular geometry. The
dimethyl ether s third atom, hydroxide, has bent molecular geometry, while propane s
third atom, carbon, has tetrahedral molecular geometry. Both of the molecules have three
central atoms. The propane moleculeonly contains carbonand hydrogen atoms, which
makes the line structure not have any element symbols. The dimethyl ether molecule has
a hydroxide atomin addition to the hydrogen and carbon atoms, which adds the OH
symbol to the line structure. The hydroxide atom also makes the dimethyl ether
molecule asymmetrical and polar, unlike propane that is a symmetrical and nonpolar
molecule. These polarity and structural differences cause these two molecules to have
different physical properties and different uses. Some of propane s physical properties
include that it is an odorless, colorless gas. It is typically shipped as a pressurized and
liquefied gas. Propane s boiling point is 42.1В°C, and its melting point is 189.6В°C.

Reflection Paper On Intelligence
During high school, I read world renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol
Dweck s research on achievement and success and I have been immediately fascinated by
her growth versus fixed mindset findings. Dweck conducted research where she gave
fifth graders problems that were too hard for them and monitored their reactions; some
students understood that they weren t good at the problems yet, but they would learn
from the challenge. Other students felt their intelligencehad been up for judgement and
they didn t believe they could improve so they failed. I became intrigued by why some
students possess a view that intelligence is incremental based on effort and some believe
that intelligence is unchanging. I came to the realization that I was one of the students
with a fixed mindset and worked incredibly hard to adopt a growth mindset.
Now, as a college student, I ve read the research by Leah Lessard, Andrew Grossman,
and Maggie L. Syme on Effects of Gender and Type of Praise on Task Performance
Among Undergraduates , which led me to acknowledge the relationship between praise,
intrinsic versus extrinsic motivators, and growth versus fixed mindsets. I began to
register that receiving person praise my whole life was what led me to develop a fixed
mindset, I didn t accept that intelligence was incremental due to being told I was smart
from the start of my educational journey. Lessard, et. al conducted an experimental study

Essay On Free Will In Hamlet And Oedipus The King
In William Shakespeare s Hamlet and Sophocles Oedipus the King, fate and free will
both play a critical role that ultimately lead to both protagonists downfall. Prince
Hamlet has more control over his actions and the choices he makes, whereas Oedipus
fate overpowers his will. The nature of knowledge and ignorance play a significant role
as Hamlet exhibits self awareness while Oedipusis impulsive and ignorant about the truth
about his parenthood. Lastly, Hamlet is reluctant to succumb to his fate, while Oedipus
surrenders himself to accept the painful truth about his destiny by letting the prophecy
take control of the events in his life, overpowering his will. Although both protagonists

Oedipus exhibits excessive hubris throughout the play, especially when he claims he
can escape the fate of his prophecy. This is evident when he commits blasphemy by
asking himself why he is to study Apollo s oracle, or gaze at the birds screaming
(Sophocles 53), not realizing that his excessive pride is leading him to his fate.
Although he tries to exert his free will, he does not have a choice but to surrender
himself after experiencing his downfall caused by his hubris. After learning the truth, he
painfully realizes that his life is controlled only by fate, and cries out, Light, let this be
the last time I see you (69). He punishes himself by surrendering and blinding himself,
symbolizing his blindness to the truth when he had sight. In contrast, Hamlet does not let
fate control him, rather he chooses the paths he takes. Evidently, Hamlet s paths are
driven by his psychological conflicts and beliefs. Some psychological conflicts include
him overthinking before putting himself into action, like when he misunderstands that
King Claudius is praying (Shakespeare 3.3.81). He thinks that it will not be revenge but
rather the deeds of hire and salary (3.3.80). This is a personal choice that Hamlet makes
as a result of his careful analysis. He is reluctant to surrender himself to fate, assuming
that belief that Claudius, his enemy, might go to heaven. While Hamlet tries his best to

Differences And Similarities Between Medieval Europe And...
TASK: What are the differences and similarities in the lives and the way in which the
society worked of those who lived in Medieval Europe to that of those who lived in
Medieval Japan?

Weapons and Army

Other differences and similarities between Medieval Europe and Shogunate Japan were
those that lay between their use and choice of armour and weaponry, and in general their
armies.

Both the medieval European knights and the Japanese samurai used horses as means of
transport into battle. They also both wore armour and used swords. European armour
was typically all metal and was made or either chain mail or plate metal. Whilst this made
them more protected, it also restricted their movement. In contrast, the Japanese samurais
donned armour which comprised of lacquered leather or metal plates with silk or metal
bindings. This light weight armour was advantageous in that it allowed the samurai to be
quick and more agile. The drawback to this armour though was that it provided much less
protection.

In Europe, the lords would build castles out of stone to protect themselves whilst the
Japanese lords, known as Daimyo, built castles out of wood rather than stone.

Feudalism

A key similarity between Medieval Europe and Shogunate Japan was the fact that both
had an established feudal system. While it was established earlier in Europe (around
800s CE), Japan established their feudal system at the close of the Heian Period and the
rise of the Kamakura Shogunate (around the 1100s).
Use Of Literary Devices Used By Ray Bradbury
This paper will delve into Ray Bradbury s novel elucidation of how the society in the
books has been burnt to ashes just like the mythical phoenix, leading to a possibility of an
ultimate regeneration of a brand new, vital, civilization with the augmented knowledge,
through the existence of books Montag and the others have. A nuanced argument
statement can also lend a hand to authenticate the thesis statement. Several may argue
that burning books should continue until every single banned book has been burnt,
interpreting it as a more relishing path, since it helps alleviate, cure, and forget the
sobering reality of depression that might occur again, however, book burningdoes have
another side to it that people do not understand, knowledge can prevent future destruction
from occurring all over again. Ray Bradbury added an additional thicker layer to the
thesis statement through the use of literary devices, such as symbolism and imagery
throughout Fahrenheit 451. Bradbury is not the only one expounding the misery of
burning books, regarding the required knowledge withering from human beings, but
Helen Keller, a radical thinker wrote letters during the Nazi book burning, empathizing
others to get a taste of the scorch. The regeneration of a new society from the lost
knowledge, through the symbol of the phoenix, has been illustrated in an ancient form of
art, Woman s Robe with Phoenixes and a Tree.
The phoenix builds a pyre to burn itself. The bird is not aware that it is

The critic Ehrenberg warns that it may lead to hubris (74 75). Throughout the drama
Sophocles draws out an ongoing contrast between the godlike mastery of the king and
the softer, more balanced and selfless characteristics of Jocasta, his wife. She is a foil to
Oedipus. Shortly thereafter Creon, Jocasta s brother, is returning from the Delphic
oracle with the fateful words of the god s command: He fell; and now the god s
command is plain: /Punish his takers off, whoe er they be. Immediately Oedipus boldly
launches a campaign to do what is best for his people and for himself:

I also, as is meet, will lend my aid

To avenge this wrong to Thebes and to the god.

Not for some far off kinsman, but myself,

Shall I expel this poison in the blood;

For whoso slew that king might have a mind

To strike me too with his assassin hand.

Oedipus, in his public proclamation regarding punishment for the killer of King Laius,
shows more lenient treatment toward the guilty party if he confesses his crime: I
summon him to make clean shrift to me./And if he shrinks, let him reflect that thus
/Confessing he shall scape the capital charge . Oedipus, in his cross examination of the
holy man Teiresias, shows his mastery to be more human and less godlike: Monster! thy
silence would incense a flint. /Will nothing loose thy tongue? Can nothing melt thee, /Or
shake thy dogged taciturnity? The king is confronted with
Breastfeeding Vs Breast Feeding Essay
There are many difficult choices new mothers face in the world whether it s pre birth or
post birth. Mothers tend to struggle with choosing the way they want to feed their
newborn baby. The biggest discussion is whether or not to breastfeed your newborn or
formula feed. Formula feeding feeds the infantwhile also providing needed nutrition.
Breastfeedinghelps create a bond between mother and child, has multiple health benefits
as well as providing the best nutrition for children; therefore, I believe it is better for the
mother and child.

Bonding is quite important while raising children, and beneficial to the child altogether.
A baby who breastfeeds also has a special opportunity to bond with his or her mother

When cells are grouped together they form what is known as a tissue. Different types
of tissue make up different types of organs. The 3 main types of tissue are Muscular,
Nerve and Epithelial. The muscular tissue is made up of three forms, they include the
skeletal, smooth and cardiac tissues. Skeletal tissue is voluntary which means that it is
used in the movements of the skeletal components. The Nerve tissue is a group of cells
which react to, many different types of stimuli. They transmit messages throughout the
body which can include things such as temperature, pain, and pressure. Epithelial tissue
is when cells that form together create the lining of a surface an example of this would

The Effects Of Television Violence On Children
he average American child watches approximately 23 hours of television weekly.
Children spend more time watching TV than doing any other leisure activity. By the time
they finish high school, most have spent more time in front of the TV than in the
classroom (Strasburger, 1995). On average, a child will see 18,000 murders, robberies,
bombings, assaults, and beatings in their years of watching television(Liebowitz, 1997).
Not to mention all the food commercials. In today s society, the television is used for
more than just entertainment. It provides a remedy for boredom, replaces after school
activities, and substitutes as a babysitter or even as a parent.
Violence and obesity are two major effects of television on children. In fact, violence on
television is harmful to all viewers, especially children. Countless studies have been done
in the past 30 years that maintain that television violence has strong effects on young
people. Researchers purport that many consequences result from spending a large amount
of time viewing television. Those who have found a correlation between television
violence and real life aggression repeatedly offer the same two results that come from
these viewings: increased aggression, and desensitization. In fact, Dr. Madeline Levine, a
clinical psychologist, is convinced of that very thing.
Children who are heavy viewers of television are more aggressive, more pessimistic,
weigh more, are less imaginative, less empathic, and less capable students

for the terror and conflict that enveloped Sudan in the last decades. Omar el Bashir has
always been criticized for only defending and acting on the interests of the Arab Muslims

As stated, Sudan is not exclusively a haven of conflict between Muslims, Christians, and
pagans. It is also a haven for the breeding and training of regional and international
terrorists. The poor and conflict ridden Sudanese territories are ideal grounds for
terrorists operations. Since 1993, Sudan was designated by the United States as a state
that sponsors terrorism. Today, it remains of the list along with other six countries of
Iran, Iraq, Cuba, Libya, Syria and North Korea (U.S. Embassy, 2011). Primarily, this is
because of the failure of Sudan to respond to numerous repeated requests for information
on many suspected training sites, safe houses and other activities of the terrorists in their
area. It was concluded that Sudan houses and supports terrorist groups and other radical
organizations such as Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Hamas, Islamic Jihad,

from numerous economic and financial sanctions from the United States and the United

their assessment of the terroristic threat in reference to Al Awlaki. Terrorism seems to
be a Lernaean Hydra in comparison in that, when you remove one leader, two more
replace them. Al Qaida, while weakened by the loss of their leader, is still very much a
threat. With almost endless finances, their ability to infiltrate and live among us is
great. While I am sure the government makes every attempt to find and flag any person
having ties to terrorist, how can you fight an enemy you cannot see? It is not as if
they wear red or grey coats as they did in the Civil War. While doing the research paper
one thing became increasing clear; I have no more idea as to the location and the
means by which to attack, than the federal government does. I don t believe that the
ability to hijack a commercial aircraft exists anymore. The attack on the Pentagon
would most likely be a one time event also. In some respects, as a nation, we are very
good at learning from our mistakes. While the government has not told us of safety
measures taken to protect such military targets, I am sure the measures have still been
taken. So with the major targets removed from accessibility, they are more likely to step

Symptoms Of The Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a common complaint in patients seen by the Family
Nurse Practitioner (FNP). Patients that complain of numbness, tingling or pain to the
first three fingers and part of the ring finger of the hand are describing CTS. The patient
may also complain of weakness to the affected hand. In patients that have experiences
these symptoms chronically, there may also be muscle wasting to the thenar eminence

The symptoms of pain, numbness, tingling or weakness are the result of the
inflammatory process within the carpal tunnel that leads to compression of the
median nerve. The compression and resulting impingement of the median nerve
results in ischemia. The ischemia leads to the symptoms of numbness, tingling, pain
and weakness of the hand and/or forearm. The FNP should inspect the wrist and hands
of the patient with symptoms of CTS, looking for skin color and temperature changes,
deformities and muscle wasting. The active and passive range of motion (ROM) of
the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists and fingers should be accessed. Muscle strength
should be assessed at the shoulder, elbow, wrist and fingers. Spurling s test for
cervical radiculopathy should be performed. A plain x ray can be ordered by the FNP if
ROM of the wrist is limited. The FNP should also assess capillary refill of the fingers

What Is The Theme Of Bird Imagery In Jane Eyre
Charlotte Bronte s novel Jane Eyre incorporates vibrant descriptions of nature and
weather, which intertwine literally and metaphorically throughout the novel to reflect the
protagonist s state of mind. Furthermore, Bronte s meticulous description of everyday
objects and experiences provide a world that is both real and tangible to the reader. The
novel defies the expectations of social class, and gender, and transcends various literary
genres, while the setting purposely enhances the characters inner feelings and emotions
meritoriously, allowing more freedom for commentary, and the expression of taboo
topics than solely through the dialogue of the characters. To deliberate these points

Rebellion In The Film Rebel Without A Cause
In the remarkably known movie, Rebel without a Cause , is one of the finest movies
ever, depicting on teenagers and rebellion. The movie begins with the main character,

the station, complaining about her dad to one of the police officer and John, referred
to as Plato, is also in the station talking to an officer about the crime he committed,
killing puppies. So, Jim s parents come to get him and they begin disputing, which is
why Jim is drunk in the first place. He refers to his home as a zoo several times

Olaudah Equiano And Thomas Jefferson
Plenty of early American authors used religious content or ideas for political purposes.
These authors wanted to change the political world around them through publishing
works with religious content. Two of these writers were Olaudah Equiano and Thomas
Jefferson. Equiano and Jefferson crafted letters and stories that shaped then political
climate during early American times that eventually helped to build a great nation. In the
biography of Thomas Jeffersonit states that he wished to be remembered for only three
things; drafting the Declaration of Independence, writing and supporting the Virginia
Statute for Religious Freedom (1786), and founding the University of Virginia. Fortunate
for him that is what he remembered for to this day. As for Olaudah Equiano, he has
caused a great deal of debate as to where he grew up. There has been evidence to
support him growing up in the Carolinas and there has also been evidence to support
him coming from Africa. One thing is certain that he has produced high quality written
material that is read to this day. Thomas Jefferson, born 1743 in Virginia, was a self
made man. He had many activities, such as law, and politics in addition to running a
5,000 acre plantation that he inherited from his father. Jefferson graduated from
William and Mary College, and was a talented lawyer. Jefferson was an awful public
speaker, but he was a great diplomat, which he proved throughout his life. He then went

Effects Of Post Colonial Literature
Colonialism has shaped the lives of about three quarter people in this present day world.
Post colonialism refers to the impact that imperial process has caused to the entire culture
from the moment of colonialization till today. All through the history the continuation of
colonising the minds through imperial rule by the Europeans is the cause of this. The
effect of this European imperial domination has spread its impacts on the contemporary
literature as well and it is therefore a major concern for the world today. The literature of
Canada, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, New Zealand, Malta, Sri lanka, the South
Pacific, the Caribbean and African countries, comes in the ambit of post colonial

However, even after getting Independence from the European colonial rule, the European
bourgeoisies still continues to decolonise the minds of people in post colonial countries
through language. One of the main features of imperial oppression is control over
language. The imperial education system installs a standard version of the metropolitan
language as the norm, and marginalizes all variants as impurities. As a character in Mrs
Campbell Praed s nineteenth century Australian novel Policy and Passion puts it, To be
colonial is to talk Australian slang; to be ... everything that is abominable . Language
becomes the medium through which a hierarchical structure of power is perpetuated, and
the medium through which conceptions of truth , order , and reality becomes
established. Such power is rejected in the emergence of an effective post colonial voice.
Ngugi wa Thiong o in his book, decolonising the mind portrays this lamentable condition
of post colonies through the example of Africa. He believed that literature and politics are

The Importance Of Love In The Novel Between Shades Of
Gray
William Sloane Coffin once said, The world is too dangerous for anything but truth and
too small for anything but love. (good connection) Within the novel Between Shades of
Gray, written by Ruta Sepetys, the main character, Lina, gets transported to labor camps
with her whole family besides her father. Lina then spends most of her time at these labor
camps being starved and searching for her father. Throughout the whole experience of the
labor camp, love is what keeps Lina moving and stops her from giving up. The novel,
Between Shades of Gray, written by Ruta Sepetys, demonstrates love overcomes fear and
suffering.
First of all, in the beginning of the novel, Lina finds love in her relationships which helps
her defeat all pain. As she suffers traumatic events, Lina finds hope through her friends
and family, allowing her to survive horrendous labor camps. Additionally, expressing
their strong connection, Lina also learns to cling onto her friends and family mentally
when they physically aren t there. When Lina gets seperated from her boyfriend,
Andrius, he gives Lina a stone to remember him by. While feeling alone one night,
Lina says, I will see you...I will. I reached into my pocket and squeezed the stone (336).
This stone symbolizes their love and hope to just see each other again. Without this stone
to hold onto, Lina would probably give up. Then, soon after Lina found out her father
died in prison, which built onto all the stress and suffering in her life. Before

When completed, an end of development review is held with all project stakeholders to

Comparison Between Art And Food
Compare and Contrast: Art to Food The boundaries of art and food are being pushed
each day. As boundaries are pushed, the line between food and art becomes smaller,
almost non existent. Existence is a construct made by man, just as the creations of food
and art. In the twenty first century, nothing is positive and everything is arbitrary.
People are less worried with how everything looks, but more concerned with the
emotional impact they receive. Art is food and food is art. Webster s dictionary defines
art as the conscious use of skill and creative imagination especially in the production of
aesthetic objects . In actuality, anything can be considered art when an artistic mind is
perceiving it. Like all sectors of culture, art has... Show more content on HelpWriting.net

Ancient Roman wedding ceremonies were finalized by breaking a cake of wheat or
barley (mustaceum) over the bride s head as a symbol of good fortune. The newly
married couple then ate a few crumbs in a custom known as confarreatio eating
together. Afterwards, the wedding guests gathered up the crumbs as tokens of good
luck. (Gastronomica). The human race has come a long way from breaking dry cake
over the bride s head. In modern times, cakes have become an extravagant focal point at
every wedding, having their own trends that come and pass with each year. Cake culture
is at an all time high in the twenty first century and with this popularity comes a demand
for more unique cakes. To fill this demand, cake decorators pull inspiration from various
movements, including art deco. Over seventy years after the conclusion of the art deco
movement, cake decorators all over the world are pulling inspiration from it to elevate
the design of their products. Traditional cakes consist of flowing, symmetrical lines
and borders. Traditional cake design is the simplest to execute. This design is not quite
elegant and not quite casual, giving it a functional purpose for consumers on a budget.
Past this tier of cake decorating brings on the realm of wedding cakes or specialty
cakes. With this new level of work, cake decorators execute more complicated designs
for a higher payout. One such design is inspired by art deco, shown in the photo above.

The Imperfection Of Humans
When we look forward and anticipate the future through the means of science fiction, it
seems that contributing largely to our contemporary definition of human is our
imperfections. The very fact that we posses these imperfections is the reason that writers
imagine a future where those imperfections may be eliminated; knowing that there is
room for improvement drives humancuriosity and ingenuity forward. So now we
imagine a future where humans are perfect, ageless, precise. Would these things really
still be human or closer to real life cyborgs? Maybe this question is too ethical, lacking
in empirical evidence to give a non angled answer. But for myself, what makes a human
different from a machine is that we are not built off of automatic judgments, we are not
ageless, and we all carry collective, as well as our own individual imperfections. For it is
these imperfections that remind us that we were not constructed in factories, but are
rather shaped by our biology and given environments. As humans, we do in fact posses
many automatic functions, many of which are linked to the autonomic nervous system
which controls and regulates bodily functions such as our heartbeats, blood circulation,
and breathing patterns. As Descartes puts it, Our own bodies can move without the
guidance of volition. So in this sense, the human body has a mechanical side to it, but
when it comes to our reasoning of the world, being creative, and solving problems, these
are functions that are not
