Title of Lab: Determining the Density of Water

Purpose: To experimentally determine the density of water and compare to the accepted density
value.

Materials: Cubic block with one open end, metric ruler, Balance, 10mL Graduated Cylinder, and
Water.

Procedure:
Part 1 - Density of Water Using a Cube
-Obtained a symmetrical cube that has an open end. Measured height, length, and width of the
cube. Recorded the measurements in the data table.
- Turned on the balance and made sure it was zeroed it out. Took the cube and placed it on the
balance to get the initial mass of the cube. Recorded mass in the data table. -
Filled the cube completely with water. Place the filed cube on the balance to obtain the mass of
the cube with the water. Recorded mass in the data table. - Poured out the water and repeated the
steps above.

Part 2: Density of Water Using a Graduated Cylinder

- Weighed a 10 mL Graduated cylinder. Obtained the mass and recorded the data in the data
table.
- Filled the graduated cylinder with 8mL of water as accurately as possible. (Accurately)
measured water by observing the bottom of the meniscus, The circular bottom of the water.
- Placed the graduated cylinder that was filled with 8mL of water onto the balance. Obtained the
mass and recorded it in the data table.
- Emptied the water and dried the graduated cylinder as much as possible. Repeated the steps
above and recorded the data.

Observations:
Calculations:
Part 1: Density of Water Using a Cube -

Accepted Density of water is1.00g/mL

Part 2: Density of Water Using a Graduated Cylinder

Accepted Density of water is 1.00/g/mL

Conclusions: I have learned so many things from doing this lab. I learned how to find the
density of water using two different
