“Love and Monsters” by Michael Matthews

Love and Monsters is another one of those love story teen movies where the
protagonist is weak and clumsy at first, but after his journey, he turns into a wise and
strong guy. Joel is a teenager that lives in a bunker with a bunch of couples, while
his supposedly soulmate was separated from him when an apocalypse (that) made
insects giant (struck humankind), and now he is determined to finally reunite with her
and live the love story that he always dreamed (about) of.
In his journey to find his girlfriend, Aimee, Joel finds a dog (named) called Boy
that (will) follows him throughout most part of the movie. He also finds an old guy
and a little girl, (named) called Clyde and Minnow, that he befriends with. While they
stay together, Clyde and Minnow teach Joel all they know about surviving on the
surface, turning Joel into a much more watchful and cautious guy. Even though both
seem very interesting characters, due to a lack of screen time and (under) character
underdevelopment it is (almost) hard for the spectator to care about Joel`s
relationship with (and) his newly met friends(' relationship).
The movie also presents us with a lot of cool fighting sequences and special
effects regarding the giant monsters that the protagonist encounters. The insects feel
believable and sometimes scary, giving (to) the spectator some tense moments to
watch on the screen.
Even though Love and Monsters showed us a big (professionality)
professionalism regarding special effects and CGI, those aren’t enough to sustain
the poor screenplay and the underdeveloped characters that are presented to us (in)
on the movie. In conclusion, this movie is a good shot if you want to watch another
one of those (love) teenager(s) love cliches from Netflix.
