Gradient Landing Spacing
1 in 14 Max. 9 m
Min. 1000 mm
(straight)
1 in 20 Max. 15 m
Steeper than 1 in 20 but not Max. 3.6 m
Ramp See landing spacing To be level
steeper than 1 in 14 (as series of ramps)
Min. 1500 mm
Between 1 in 14 & 1 in 20 By interpolation
(curved)
Not steeper
No change Not steeper than 1 in 40 1000 mm wide x 1200 mm long N/A See above
than 1 in 40
Landings
for 1500 mm wide x 1500 mm long Not steeper
Up to 90° Not steeper than 1 in 40 N/A See above
Ramps & (inner corner can be chamfered) than 1 in 40
Walkways
Not steeper
90° to 180° Not steeper than 1 in 40 1540 mm wide x 2070 mm long N/A See above
than 1 in 40
NOTES:
(1) For ramps and walkways, a cross fall having a gradient of 1 in 33 is permitted in lieu of 1 in 40 if bitumen is used as the surface material.
(2) For landings, a gradient of 1 in 33 is permitted in lieu of a gradient of 1 in 40 if bitumen is used as the surface material.
(3) For landings located at a door, there must be no cross fall, e.g. the landing must be level.
