1. Introduction
Dear user,
Do not use the grab, until the instructions from this
manual are completely clear.
This manual should be kept near the machine. When the grab is sold the manual
must be given to the buyer. This manual and the Parts-manual should not be
discarded until the grab is dismantled.
J&B Grabs B.V. products have the CE-mark status and satisfy all the relevant
European safety norms. Modifications to J&B Grabs B.V. products, (for example:
attaching a load-hook), may only be carried out with permission from J&B Grabs
B.V., otherwise the guarantee and the CE-marking expires.

• The supplier only guarantees if defects arising from correct use of this product.
• The buyer is obligated to report defects, which could give result in further
damage, and to report this in writing to the supplier, if not the guarantee expires.
• The grab may only be used with machines which also have the CE-machine
marking.
• Incorrect use of the grab, or unqualified personnel.
• Improper installation of the grab.
• Use contradicting the applicable standards.
• Malfunction in the power supply.
• Incorrect maintenance.
• Non-permitted changes to the grab
• Use of non-original parts.

5. Transport instructions
The grab must be transported in the correct position of its unstable form when it is in
its closed stand.
• Check the lift capacity of the accessories which are used to move the grab. The
weight of the grab can be found on a plate attached to the grab.
• Preferably transport the grab in its opened position. If it is too large, transport the
grab on its side, see figure 2 for example.
• Be sure to seal off the hydraulic system before lifting the grab.
• Use the appropriate binders and/or rope to secure the grab.

6. Mounting instructions
Changes to the grab may only be carried-out by personnel approved by
J&B Grabs B.V.
1. The crane’s hydraulic system must be compatible with that of the grab and (where used)
the rotator. If the original crane is not compatible, then the hydraulic system must be
changed to suit. This work may only be carried-out by crane manufacturer-
authorised personnel.
2. Use only J&B Grabs B.V. or the crane manufacturer’s recommended couplings.
3. If the crane manufacturer delivers the coupling, then the crane manufacturer’s instructions
must be followed.
4. Ensure that the couplings are suitable for the system before mounting, and that the hoses
are of the correct length to prevent them being torn off.
5. Place the grab on a level floor in a stable opened position. Ensure that the tines are
resting fully on their stops.
6. Take the crane-jib together with the grab & crane connector-plate. Set the hole from the
connector-plate next to the hole from the crane-jib. Never use hands to feel if the holes
are aligned. Insert the connecting-pin and fix it in place.
7. Check that the pin between the grab and the connecting-plate is firmly fixed in place.
8. Grease points “A” (fig.2) with Pennzoil multipurpose 303 or equivalent grease. Use special
grease for underwater purposes.
9. Clean the hydraulic couplings before connecting, dirt in the system can lead to
internal damage! If dirt is found in the system, stop immediately and check for damage.
Any damage must be immediately rectified.
10.Connect the grab to the crane hydraulics.
11.The grab’s hydraulic system is filled with oil. It is possible that the system may have to be
bled, the following steps must then be followed; *Open and close the grab three times,(do
not use full pressure), this should ensure that any air in the system will rise to the top of
the cylinders. *Place the grab on the floor in a closed and stable position. Screw the
uppermost cylinder coupling slightly open. Watch out! The crane can move due to the
drop in pressure. As soon as oil instead of air appears, screw the coupling closed.
12.Check if the oil-pressure is the same, or less than the given oil-pressure figures.(See
chapter- Technical information).
13.If it is not possible to regulate the pressure within the given limits, contact the crane
supplier.
14.Now carryout the Opening/closing Test to check that the grab movements correspond to
the crane controls. Switchover the hose connections if necessary.
Check for correct type of connector-plate by observing if the grab can swing both parallel
and perpendicular to the crane jib.

9. Normal maintenance
THE GRAB MUST BE PLACED ON A STABLE SURFACE BEFORE ANY
MAINTENANCE IS CARRIED OUT. ENSURE THAT THE TINES ARE RESTING
ON THEIR STOPS AND THAT THE CRANE’S ENGINE IS SWITCHED OFF.
ATTENTION:
Regular maintenance, like greasing and checking the grab, lengthen the
life of the grab and therefore will lead to less production down-time.

10. Overhauls
Overhauls should only be carried-out by qualified personnel, and with the correct
tools.
For ordering spare parts, please state : Model, serial number, and year of
manufacture.
With repairs use only dry electrodes from an air tight pack :
If there are cracks, clean them properly and grind out all irregularities before
repairing.
